Grizzly spirit shines at annual University and College Night at the Toronto Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays may not have come away with the win, but there were plenty of memorable moments for the 374 Georgian alumni, students, employees, retirees and friends who came together for University and College Night at Rogers Centre on Sept. 10.

For some, it was their very first time attending a Jays game. Georgian even had its own big-league moment when our group made it onto the Jumbotron, with plenty of Grizzly spirit on display in the stands throughout the night with each attendee receiving a custom co-branded Georgian/Jays hat as part their specialty ticket.

With alumni from graduating classes spanning 1973 to 2025 in attendance, the evening brought together more than five decades of Georgian grads, each with their own memories, experiences and connections to the college. It was a chance to reconnect, catch up with familiar faces and enjoy a night at the ballpark together.

The Georgian College Alumni Association hosts events throughout the year, creating opportunities for grads to reconnect with their Grizzly roots and with each other.

Georgian College Golf Classic, presented by belairdirect, shatters records, raising $240,000

The 34th Georgian College Golf Classic, presented by belairdirect, brought together alumni, donors, sponsors and friends of the college on Sept. 29, raising an incredible $240,000 in net cash proceeds for student awards, scholarships and bursaries, and essential supports like the Georgian FoodLocker.

The event also marked a major milestone, pushing the Georgian Golf Classic past $2 million raised for Georgian students since the tournament began.

Georgian alumni played an important role in the event, from hitting the links and sponsoring the tournament to serving on the organizing committee, coming together to create more opportunities for the next generation of Georgian grads.

And the fundraising isn’t over yet! There’s still time to purchase tickets for the WestJet raffle, with a round-trip flight for two to any regularly scheduled and marketed WestJet destination up for grabs. Get your raffle tickets before sales close Oct. 6.

Georgian alumna returns to inspire employees

As Georgian employees gathered and prepared to welcome students for the fall semester at the annual employee startup event on Sept. 1, Pam Newlove (class of 1998 and 1999) returned to where her own Georgian journey began nearly 30 years ago.

Now holding dual leadership roles as Regional Director with Ontario Health – Cancer Care Ontario (OH-CCO) for the North Simcoe Muskoka Region and Operations Director of the Hudson Regional Cancer Program at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Pam joined the event as its alumni keynote speaker. She shared her journey from Georgian student to health-care leader, reflecting on the employees who helped shape her experience and the lessons she has carried throughout her career.

Nearly three decades later, Pam still remembers the Georgian employees who inspired her, encouraged her and helped her feel like she belonged. Their impact extended well beyond her time at Georgian, with lessons and experiences she has carried throughout her career.

Her message to employees was simple but powerful: small moments matter.

A smile. A conversation. A few words of encouragement. For a student finding their way, those everyday interactions can make a lasting difference and help them feel seen, supported and connected to the Georgian community.

Pam’s story was a timely reminder of the impact each member of the Georgian community can have as we begin another academic year. The occasion also included a special shout-out to Pam’s husband and fellow Georgian grad, Brandon Newlove (class of 1998), who was in the audience.

Thank you, Pam, for coming back to where it all began and reminding us that the connections we make with students today can stay with them for a lifetime.

Owen Sound Nursing Class of 1976 celebrates 50-year reunion

Fifty years after graduating from Georgian College’s Nursing program, 17 members of the Class of 1976 returned to the Owen Sound Campus recently to reconnect, reminisce and celebrate a remarkable milestone.

The graduates united back in the classroom to share memories of their time at Georgian, learn more about the Georgian College Alumni Association and hear how nursing education has evolved over the past five decades.

The reunion also included a tour of the Owen Sound Nursing and Wellness wing, giving the group a firsthand look at the modern equipment, technology and learning resources available to today’s students.

A special highlight brought together three generations of Georgian nursing. The graduates were joined by one of their former professors and a current Practical Nursing student, creating a meaningful opportunity to share experiences and reflect on both the changes and connections that span 50 years of nursing education at Georgian.

Congratulations to the Nursing Class of 1976 on 50 years!

Art comes to life at The Campus Gallery

Pictured: James Gardner’s exhibition, Selenotropic, at The Campus Gallery in 2017.

There’s plenty happening at The Campus Gallery this October, with opportunities to watch a large-scale mural take shape and hear from a local Indigenous artist about his work and creative process.

Students in the Art and Design Fundamentals (AADF) and Visual and Digital Media Arts (VDMA) programs are working alongside local artists Bruno Smoky and Shalak of Clandestinos Art to create a 20-foot mural. Designed and painted in The Campus Gallery, the finished work will be installed at Georgian's new downtown hub.

The Georgian community is invited to drop by the gallery and watch the mural unfold beginning Oct. 5. Painting continues Oct. 5 and 6, and Oct. 19 and 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays and 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays.

Then, on Thursday, Oct. 22 from 10 to 11 a.m., The Campus Gallery welcomes Clayton Samuel King of Beausoleil First Nation as part of its Artist Talk Mentor Series. Clayton will share insights into his research, artwork and creative process, including how his Anishinaabek culture, heritage and history inform his storytelling and narrative paintings.

Both events take place at The Campus Gallery, Barrie Campus.
