indispensable to each other."

Value Word
Our featured Value Word of the month is:
Courageous—mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty.

Being courageous can be tiring, can't it? And yet, it's what we do—for those we support and for each other! Whose courageousness do you admire? Have you told them?
Owners Corner
— by Colette Spielman —
This month’s featured owner of Aurora is Holly Love.

Holly enjoys working with the consumers, making their lives better, and making a difference. In Holly’s spare time, she enjoys creating floral arrangements and also enjoys building Legos. Holly is a big fan of the TV show “Lego Masters.”

Thank you, Holly, for being a part of Aurora and for your many contributions to the consumers we serve!
Featured Team
— by Stephanie Ischer —
This month, we feature the services provided by the Admin Department.

This dynamic group does more than just greet people and answer phones. I like to say the admins are the magic behind the scenes. They are the people responsible for setting the tone in the office and keeping things running smoothly.

The goal of the admin department is to provide exceptional customer service to all who call or visit the offices, sites, and centers. Their “customers” include consumers, operations, vendors, and staff from all of Aurora’s departments and companies. They are responsible for ordering supplies, processing ledgers and monthly packets, sending out correspondence to guardians, case managers, and staff. They assist with the orientation and onboarding of new staff. They provide assistance with filing, data entry, audits, and licensing visits. When sites are short-staffed, they relocate to the sites so they can provide more support. They assist with grocery shopping, consumer transports, and medical appointments. Basically, if there is a need, admin are there to help in any way that they can.

Got a question or need help with something? Just ask. Admin are ready to jump in or know the person who can help with that.

Thanks, Admin Team, for all that you do!

This month we want to remind you of the benefits you may have forgotten you have!

Ask Aurora
What should I do if I hear a coworker swearing at a consumer? (Or being rude, or name calling, or yelling...)

If you're comfortable, let your coworker know that swearing at a consumer is unacceptable and is considered verbal abuse. Then report the incident immediately to your supervisor or other member of the management team. If you're not comfortable speaking with your coworker about it, simply report it so it can be addressed and resolved.

Bullying Prevention Month
October is Bullying Prevention Month

We often think of bullying as something that kids do to kids, but did you know there is a Workplace Bullying Institute? It’s true! And in WBI’s 2021 National Survey, they learned that 79.3 million U.S. workers are impacted by bullying in the workplace!

Be courageous enough to speak up when you witness bullying. When we set the expectation that we won’t tolerate it, it will end.
Safety Winners
Congratulations to Heather Hooks from 301 in Colorado and Misty Herbst from 071 in Eau Claire!

These team members have demonstrated their commitment to safety and have won a $100 bonus for having done so.

Keep working safely to be entered in next month's drawing.
Safety Snapshot
Check out this snapshot of work-related injuries through August 2022.
Safety Tip
What is your alarm telling you? Learn the sounds of fire safety!

Smoke Alarms
  • A continued set of three loud beeps—beep, beep, beep—means smoke or fire. Get out, call 9-1-1 and stay out.
  • A single "chirp" every 30 or 60 seconds means the battery is low and must be changed.
  • All smoke alarms must be replaced after 10 years.
  • Chirping that continues after the battery has been replaced means the alarm is at the end of its life and the unit must be replaced.

Carbon Monoxide (CO) Alarms
  • A continuous set of four loud beeps—beep, beep, beep, beep—means carbon monoxide is present in the home. Go outside, call 9-1-1, and stay out.
  • A single chirp every 30 to 60 seconds means the battery is low and must be replaced.
  • CO alarms also have "end of life" sounds that vary by manufacturer. This means it's time to get a new CO alarm.
  • Chirping that continues after the battery has been replaced means the alarm is at the end of its life and the unit must be replaced.

For Aurora sites, continue to do fire drills once a month and a nighttime simulated fire drill once a year. Ensure everyone knows where the designated meeting place is as well.
