RE: Death of Dr. Paul O. Davis
Friends,
It is with great sadness I report the death of Dr. Paul O. Davis, our founder, friend, and champion of the Firefighter Challenge program. Paul recently succumbed to a brief illness in which he fought a courageous battle with the love and support of his wife, Debbie, and son, Brent.
I never had the opportunity to meet Paul in person, however we certainly spent a great deal of time together via video conferencing after he decided to pass the baton to me in late 2021 and to transfer the Challenge to this nonprofit organization. Without question, he was one of the nicest individuals I’ve had the pleasure of working with in my career. His many stories in building and operating the Challenge were inspiring and helped equip me to carry the torch with a greater understanding of the rich history of this program. His enduring commitment to the fire service via his research and the formation of the Challenge will not be forgotten. Let us all now carry the torch to continue his vision for generations to come.
We will pay tribute to our friend at the World Challenge in Nashville, TN in October so his friends from around the world can join us in celebrating his life and impact in the fire service.
Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. The family will release further information when they are ready and appreciate you allowing them time to grieve this incredible loss.
