A Note from Scott and Marsha

I was visiting with my mom recently and she made a statement that I had to say twice in my head. "This is the kind of air you wear." Apparently, the weatherman she watches says this each morning. I had never heard that, and it made me chuckle. Now when I walk outside, I wonder if there is another layer to what I have on and if I should strip down a bit more. Of course, there is no reason to scare the neighbors or our tribe so I wear my clothes and the air.
I'm pretty excited about tomorrow evening. We will have our third For Friday's Sake with the Garden Center open until 8pm as well as live music, a food truck, and The Potting Shed serving all things slushy and spirited.
Lizzie, our new Event Coordinator, has simply rocked it. She is also my assistant and runs alongside me like a star. Really, she has these little angelic wings that are flapping as fast as they can and her beautiful blonde mane is blowing in the wind as I am buzzing around like the Tasmanian devil on Looney Tunes cartoon episode.
These events she plans are awesome, but they don't always go as planned. For example, she has already had to throw herself over a fence for a gate issue. She had to help unclog a toilet that overflowed (insert my eye roll and growling here). She has helped with painting, creating, designing, calls, and research. She plans garden classes which everyone is absolutely loving. They sell out every time. When the food truck doesn't show up at the last minute, she scrambles to find another. When a music group cancels at the last minute, she scrambles to find another. When she can't find someone, her heart is broken with disappointment for our customers. Lizzie has jumped into a role with both feet, shoes laced up and all. And we are so grateful for her!
Lizzie and Marco are new to the RTP area and moved from Ohio. They are settling in and Marco is even helping at The Potting Shed alongside his other job because we have so much fun! Also because he loves Lizzie, of course. (But mostly because we have so much fun.) Speaking of fun, we hope you will join us tomorrow evening for all things green, fruity and cold, as well as a beautiful sunset to boot!

MONSTERA DELICIOSA
This popular houseplant is named for the delicious fruit it produces--but sadly, this only happens in its natural outdoor environment, and not when it is kept as a houseplant indoors. But don't let that stop you! The foliage is beautiful and the leaves (if they aren't already) will eventually split. They are easy to care for when they live in bright to medium indirect light. Water every one to two weeks, depending on how thirsty your is.

HANGING PLANTERS
Hanging planters just make houseplants that much more gorgeous. We love that they may allow you to indulge in that one not-so-pet-friendly plant you have been DYING to own and keep your furry friends safe. Or maybe you want to keep your plants from the curious hands of a toddler. Either way, elevate! And do it beautifully with one of these planters!

DRIFT AND KNOCKOUT ROSES
Drift and Knockout Roses perform amazingly in our area. While roses can be prone to disease or attack by beetle, with a close eye and a little TLC, your roses will bring you lots of color all summer long. We have many colors to choose from. Find a nice, sunny spot with well-draining soil. Roses (like humans) like to be fed, so be sure to fertilize according to the directions of your favorite Rose fertilizer. We like Rose Tone.

Ice Cream: Neapolitan
Show: The Good Place
Book: Quiet, Susan Kane
Plant: Tinus Compacta ('Spring Bouquet') Viburnum

Viridian may be soft-spoken and sweet as can be, but she is a spit-fire when it comes to getting her job done. She makes sure that we have all the plants, stone and other supplies needed for our landscape installations. She also helps keep Jack, our Landscape Operations Manager, in line ;) She is the go-to person when we need something translated to Spanish and is amazingly patient and quick to get us anything we ask of her. Viridian's outlook in life is always (or nearly always) super-positive. We just love her to pieces!
