Welcome to 2021! A New Year is an interesting event. Like the stock market hitting a notable number or reaching a birthday, there is nothing inherently magical or transformative about the milestone outside of the psychological impact. Fortunately (and sometimes unfortunately) the psychological impact really matters and the opportunity to make resolutions and improve our lives is very welcome. Our Ask the Joes® has an important item in this area.

We think: you’ll enjoy Brad McMillan’s look at the markets in 2020 and the coming month. We learned: that the oldest Civil War widow (!!!) just passed away. It’s an interesting story. We read: about the interesting genetic history of the inhabitants of the Caribbean. Europeans may not have been the first to wipe out the islands’ populations. We've been: watching Covid news and it continues to be a highly complex problem for policy makers. We thought Tyler Cowen’s analysis of the political challenges was very interesting. We recommend: this interesting look at real estate trends, published by Avison Young. The supply chain piece is interesting for anyone following e-commerce (or buying things from Amazon!).

Q: What is something I should pay attention to in the New Year? A: Are your legal documents up-to-date? Do you know where they are, or have regular access to them? What if you or a loved one is ill and you need to access a Power of Attorney or Health Care Directive? In addition to reviewing your documents, you can store a digital copy with our office through your Investor360 account. This ensures that you can review a digital copy wherever you are. This is especially helpful if you keep your original documents somewhere safe, but hard to access when away from home like a safe. Please let us know if you would like to review this further.
