Joe Jr. was recognized by the Community Foundation of North Central Florida as the 2021 Professional Advisor of the Year*, “recognizing outstanding work in promoting philanthropy.” Both Joes have a passion for education and financial literacy, and a lot of our community involvement has focused on those areas. We’ve never been major donors to university athletic associations, so we may lack the personal connection necessary to understand the phenomenon of “dead money” in college sports. ESPN tallied the number, and it’s staggering: Over 11 years, more than $533 million was paid to college coaches who were fired without cause and with time left on their contracts. The most recent seasons, not included in that number, have added another $107 million! In other sports news, we were amused by this BYU alum who is attending 40 college football games to commemorate his 40th birthday (article behind paywall). It’s a tricky logistical feat, and includes a 6-day, 7-game swing this week. This video is a few years old, but was fun to watch. Michael Jackson’s drummer, Jonathan Moffett, does a live performance of “Smooth Criminal.” Bea found this great explanation of how you can use hand gestures to control your Apple Watch. We’re still trying to learn the ins-and-outs, but it works! “The greatest thing since sliced bread” is a popular idiom. Sliced bread was introduced in 1928 with the advertising slogan, “the greatest forward step in the baking industry since bread was wrapped." Interestingly, Betty White is older than sliced bread.
