Welcome to our last Lowry Letter of 2021! Do you make New Year’s resolutions? Here are some tips for more successful goal-keeping: Be specific: Don’t just say “get more sleep,” but have a certain target that can be tracked. Related- take time to plan for success. What action steps are required? Don’t make too many goals at one time. Change it up: move on from previously unsuccessful efforts. Find an accountability partner- need someone to keep you honest? Find someone who can check in. Tim Ferris has a great alternative method for new year preparation, called the “Past Year Review.” By cataloguing the good and bad of the previous year, and planning for more of the good, you can start the year with excellent prospects.

On a related note, one of our favorite recent books, The Gap & The Gain, teaches you how to look at progress made RATHER THAN the distance you are from where you want to be. It can make a big difference. We learned that Christmas was often the best opportunity for enslaved persons to risk an escape. Ending 2021 with a bang, a Finnish man decided to blow up his Tesla Model S rather than pay over $20,000 for new batteries. One of the most persistent failures of the government response to Covid has been the low supply of affordable, at-home Covid tests. The blame can be shared by many, as this article explains. Spider-man: No Way Home was a lot of fun.

Q: How are things looking for 2022? A: The most recent economic data from November is pretty positive. Consumer confidence and durable goods orders exceeded expectations. Spending and income followed projections, and existing home sales were lower than expected, but still following a multi-month growth trend. It's nice to end the year with good news!
