New Video Promotes Amberley Village Living
We all know life is great in Amberley Village. Now our neighbors will, too!
Amberley Village staff has worked diligently for the past year to produce a video that reflects all the advantages of life as a resident in our community. And it's finally here!
Before its public release, everyone agreed we should share it with residents first. So be sure and set aside six minutes to take a sneak peek! The video will be formally released as part of a refreshed website project, which will be launched in the coming weeks.
And while we weren't able to capture EVERY advantage to life in the Village, we think we hit the mark in some of the key areas...let us know what you think! Send your feedback to tpreasoner@amberleyvillage.org and let us know what you'd like to see in future productions!
If you know someone who is currently not receiving our emails, they may contact Clerk of Council Tammy Reasoner at tpreasoner@amberleyvillage.org with their name and email address, and we'll be happy to add them to our mailing list!

Amberley Village Awarded
Best Village Waste Diversion Rate
Amberley Village recently learned of its status as having the Best Village Waste Diversion rate for 2020 from the Hamilton County Solid Waste District!
The numbers used to determine the Village Diversion Rate are calculated by compiling totals from of all materials diverted from the landfill from residential and Village efforts throughout the year. Even without our annual One Stop Drop, Amberley Village residents, together with the Village Maintenance Department, managed to divert more materials from the landfill than any other village in Hamilton County.
Thanks to all of our residents who have made the commitment to environmental responsibility by incorporating recycling practices into their regular household routines! We're proud to share yet another example of what makes Amberley Village an outstanding community.

Keep Up the Great Work
with New Recyclable Plastics!
Rumpke is now accepting plastic tubs!
As mentioned in recent newsletters, Rumpke is now accepting plastic tubs in its recycling program!
So, yogurt eaters rejoice! Bring on the butter tubs and toss in those fruit cups! All of these items will find new life through Rumpke’s enhanced recycling program.
Simply rinse your containers, reattach lids and toss them into your bin loose with the rest of your recycling items!

Planning Ahead: One Stop Drop Update
Amberley Village has remained constant in its commitment to recycling. Even in the face of a world pandemic, this remains true - but with strong consideration to the safety of our residents.
Amberley's Environmental Stewardship Committee has been meeting monthly to determine the best way to proceed to ensure the strongest recycling outcome with a priority on the safety of our residents. For these reasons, the annual One Stop Drop will be moved to the fall months to ensure adequate time for the COVID vaccine to reach its fullest effect.

Spring Thaw in Amberley Village: How You Can Help
A special thanks to our Maintenace Crew for their quick and effective efforts during our recent snowstorms! In the aftermath, the quick melt and spring rains promise plenty of challenges for all of us.
To help reduce the problem and alleviate spring flooding, the Amberley Village Maintenance Department has begun clearing catch basins, opening stormwater cross culverts, and moving snow from areas in the Village more prone to spring flooding. As the snow melts, please make sure your driveway culvert is clear and free of debris. Clogged, frozen driveway culverts impact not just your property, but your entire block or neighborhood.

Please do your part and make sure your driveway culvert is clear and free of debris. Thanks in advance for your assistance as we work to ensure a continued high level of service!

Chief Wallace's Citizen of Excellence Awards
Each year, Chief Wallace, on behalf of the Amberley Village Police Department, honors four citizens whose actions, support or involvement set them apart in their contributions to the community.
This year's award winners were recognized at the February meeting of Council, on February 8, 2021, and the following recipients were recognized:
Resident Terri Hogan Seurkamp contributed funding for staff and officer training on interactions with individuals with special needs. The mother of a son on the Autism Spectrum, Terri has been an advocate for training and job support for special needs children and adults, even testifying before the U.S. Senate on the topic.
Rabbi Ezra Goldschmidt of Congregation Sha'arei Torah has been a proactive liaison between Amberley Village Police and his congregation in working to stop the spread of COVID-19 over the past year. He has held weekly meetings with Police and gone over and above to protect the health and safety of his congregants.
Ilana Nadel, Mayerson JCC, has been a long-time partner and advocate of the Amberley Village Police, and has collaborated with the Department to develop videos, campaigns and even a children's book to promote safety and police partnership in the community. Her commitment to actively engaging the community in developing stronger relationships with Amberley Village PD has been an outstanding catalyst to furthering the goals of the Department and our officers.
Carl Vasillio of Demetrios V Restaurant, located just outside Amberley Village in Golf Manor, is also recognized for his contribution in keeping our crews fed during the storm cleanup of April 2020. With multiple agencies assisting Amberley Village in the cleanup efforts, Demetrios V helped streamline the process and we were able to be sure everyone was fed. Demetrios V also provides additional supports for Law Enforcement, partnering with The Shield to assist in feeding families of fallen officers, as well as our Hamilton County Police Honor Guard.

Amberley Village Swears In New Officers
Sgt. Brian Baker and Officer Brian Vaughn were sworn in by Mayor Muething, and the videos were shared at the February 8 meeting of Council. Chief Wallace thanked the Mayor for performing the swearing-in ceremonies in a safe, social-distanced format that could still be shared with the entire community. The Mayor reminded Council and residents at the meeting how seriously our Amberley Village Police Officers take their Oath of Office by living the words each day. Congratulations to both Sgt. Baker and Officer Vaughn!

Amberley Village Officers Teach
Emergency Preparedness at JCC
Did you know that Amberley Village Police Officers conduct Emergency Preparedness/ALICE Training for staff at Mayerson JCC? ALICE is an acronym for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate, and is considered the most effective response to an active shooter situation in the country.
On February 15, Officer Mark Monahan, in conjunction with Mayerson JCC Operations Associate Ilana Nadel (see article above on Chief's Citizens of Excellence Awards), trained 40 JCC staff at the Early Childhood School. And on February 22, 2021, Sergeant Mike Koenig and Ms. Nadel taught another 50 students at a separate training onsite.
In total, Amberley Village officers teach the ALICE class about 20 times per year at the JCC. The Village currently has four officers that are ALICE-certified instructors, including Sergeant Koenig, Officer Fritsch, Officer Monahan, and Officer Alt. As a department, we offer training to businesses, educational institutions and religious facilities that wish to provide the ALICE model of emergency preparedness. The trainings are just one example of the commitment Amberley Village Police-Fire has with both the JCC and the community as a whole. If you or someone you know is interested in scheduling training, please contact Lietentant Brian Blum at 531-2040.

Ice Cream Social Garners Regional Attention
Amberley Village residents enjoyed a summer Drive-Thru Ice Cream Social. Recently, we've come to realize is that this was a truly unique experience during the rough days of COVID. Apparently, there are communities around the region that are looking to model our successful event!
With more than three times the usual attendance, the 2020 Ice Cream Social garnered attention from the Ohio City/County Management Association (OCMA), which featured the event in its recent newsletter. The result was inquiries from other communities asking for guidance in developing similar events.
Thanks to all who planned, participated, sponsored and attended the event this past summer! They say the strongest form of flattery is the imitation of our actions - thanks for making us proud, Amberley Village! National Do Not Call List
It seems like the number of unwanted phone calls just keeps increasing. Many of us have placed our information on the National Do Not Call List, but the calls just keep on coming. What's a person to do?
According to ohioprotects.org, a site run by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, there are a few basic practices that can help:
- Don't respond or press numbers during a robocall; it just confirms you're real
- Report calls received if you are on the do not call list
The biggest recommendation is:
#JUSTDONTANSWER

Duke Energy Undergrounding Project
Duke Energy has been reaching out to residents to request permission to install underground cabling. Many residents have contacted the Village to confirm the legitimacy of this project - and legitimate it is!
By way of background, residents over the past several years have expressed frustration with a large number of power outages. Amberley Village has worked directly with Duke Energy to devise a solution that could reduce the number of outages, particularly in the southern portion of the Village.
In November 2020, the first phase of the project began on Belkay. According to Duke, the results could make a major difference for homeowners who have endured a multitude of power outages. Take a look at the video to learn more about the undergrounding process and how it might impact you.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation and patience while work is underway to improve services to Amberley Village residents. Questions? Visit Duke Energy at duke-energy.com/TUG or call the Customer Service Line at 800.544.6900.

Coyote Mating Season: A Call for Caution
Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) classifies coyotes as nuisance wildlife. And during mating season, which runs through the end of March in Ohio, coyotes can often be more than just a nuisance. Mating season means more frequent encounters with coyotes, and taking extra precautions to protect small pets is imperative.
Key steps residents can take to reduce encounters with coyotes include minimizing food sources. This means securing trash cans, keeping pet food indoors, and refraining from feeding wildlife.
In addition, pet owners should maintain a presence while pets are outside, especially during the hours just before and after dusk. Coyotes are typically not aggressive toward humans, but smaller pets in particular can become prey.
For more information regarding coyotes and how to minimize contact with them in your yard, visit the resources provided at right.

Banner Celebrates Amberley Village!
Amberley Village Council announced in our last issue that we received recognition from the U.S. Census Bureau for efforts in achieving an excellent outcome in the recent Census 2020. Amberley Village ranked ninth of all communities in Ohio for self-reporting during the recent census with an 88.2% self-response rate. This means that nearly 90% of residents in Amberley Village responded to the census without requiring a call or visit.
Look for public recognition of this achievement on the hillside next to the Municipal Building, displaying our pride in our residents. We want to make sure everyone driving knows what a great community we share! A sincere thanks again to all who took part in this effort.

Pedestrian Safety: Walk Toward Traffic
Amberley Village Police Department recommends pedestrians and runners walk and run facing traffic. Not only does walking toward traffic substantially improve pedestrian safety, but it also allows pedestrians to react more quickly to a wayward or distracted driver.
Pedestrians and runners are also reminded to minimize distractions while walking or running, such as texting or reading messages on your phone.
Be sure to remind family members, especially teens and children, of these important safety tips!

From protecting their families to keeping residents safe, they're always looking out for the community as a whole. New Vaccine
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) for the third vaccine for the prevention of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The EUA allows the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 Vaccine to be distributed in the U.S for use in individuals 18 years of age and older. The vaccine is administered as a single dose, which will allow vaccination for more people while also providing opportunities for vaccination for groups requiring special consideration, such as the homebound.
Expanded Vaccine Eligibility
In response to this significant increase in the amount of vaccine coming into Ohio, Governor DeWine outlined the individuals who are included in Phase 1C and Phase 2 of Ohio's vaccination plan which will go into effect on March 4.
Phase 1C: Ohioans with certain occupations and with certain medical conditions not addressed in previous phases.
Medical Groups Eligible in 1C
· Type 1 diabetes
· Pregnant women
· Bone marrow transplant recipients
· ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease)
Occupations Eligible in 1C
· Childcare Services
· Funeral Services
· Law Enforcement and Corrections Officers
Reduced Restrictions
Last week, Governor Mike DeWine announced that sporting and entertainment events will be able to reopen with 25 percent maximum indoor capacity and 30 percent maximum outdoor capacity, provided they follow established precautions such as mandatory mask wearing for employees and customers, spectator pathways that allow for social distancing, and seating in groups in six-foot intervals of no more than six people from the same household.

General admission (lawns, standing room, infields) will be permitted if masks are worn and if six-foot distancing can be marked and maintained.
New guidance for proms, banquets, wedding receptions, fairs, festivals, and parades is forthcoming.

Amberley Village is committed to keeping lines of communication open and accessible between residents and government officials. In this spirit, Amberley Village has incorporated Village-issued email addresses for Councilmembers into its digital communications protocol.
These measures unify the format, making it easier for residents to send a message when an issue comes to mind. The member's first initial followed by last name (no space) @amberleyvillage.org will get your message on its way to members of the Amberley Village Council.
