Dear Friend,

Last Friday, FEMA activated Virginia Task Force 1 (VA-TF1) to support the response to the Texas floods. The rescue team included specialists from both Fairfax County and Montgomery County. Fairfax County sent one search manager and three K-9 units, trained to detect victims trapped under debris in structural collapses and flood conditions. Learn more about the mission.

Established in 1986 as a domestic and international disaster response resource, sponsored by the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, Virginia Task Force 1 is rostered by approximately 200 specially trained fire and rescue personnel, with expertise in the rescue of victims from collapsed structures, following a natural or man-made catastrophic event.

Thank you for your service!

As Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) continues its Summer Crime Prevention Initiative, I would like to remind you of the various ways to report a crime to FCPD.

  • In case of emergency, call 9-1-1.
  • Call the police non-emergency number at 703-691-2131.
  • Community Reporting System: This system allows police reports to be submitted at any time for incidents that occurred within Fairfax County. All case statuses are classified as INACTIVE, meaning it is not assigned to a detective or officer for further investigation. Once a report is submitted, police personnel may reach out for clarification or additional information to complete the report.

Last, a friendly reminder that first installments of Fairfax County real estate tax payments are due Monday, July 28.

Most homeowners pay Fairfax County's real estate tax as part of a monthly mortgage payment. Your mortgage company then sends the taxes directly to the county. However, some homeowners must pay their real estate taxes directly. For payment options and to learn more, visit https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/taxes/1st-installment-real-estate-taxes-due.

It is both an honor and a privilege for me to serve as your representative on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. Thank you for the opportunity to serve.

Transportation

The Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA) formally adopted NVTA's Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Action Plan. Building on more than $880 million in BRT investments to date, the Action Plan offers a clear framework for jurisdictions and agencies to incrementally develop BRT routes, while also outlining how these routes can function as an integrated system once fully implemented.

NVTA has already invested more than $880 million towards building five different BRT routes in the region: Crystal City-Potomac Yard Transitway (Metroway), The One (Richmond Highway BRT), Duke Street Transitway, West End Transitway, and Route 7 BRT.

Fairfax County is developing a BRT service on Richmond Highway between Huntington Metrorail Station and Ft. Belvoir (branded as “The One”), that will include 7.4-miles of dedicated BRT lanes. Richmond Highway is a dynamic corridor characterized by diverse land uses and significant transportation demands. The comprehensive approach to improvements in the Richmond Highway corridor is commonly referred to as Embark Richmond Highway and has three elements: road widening by VDOT (including bicycle/pedestrian improvements), land use changes, and planning and design of the BRT system. Richmond Highway BRT will be implemented by the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) with support from other county, state, and federal agencies. In addition to funding The One, NVTA is also funding the road-widening element. View the project page.

South Van Dorn Street STARS Study

This STARS (Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions) study is assessing potential safety, operational, transit and bicycle/pedestrian improvements along the two-and-a-half mile stretch of South Van Dorn Street (Route 613) between Telegraph Road (Route 611) and the Alexandria city limits.

STARS studies do not set construction dates for any improvements but develop proposed improvements that localities can pursue for funding.

The study team received public input regarding corridor priorities during the first round of public involvement in March 2025. This feedback will be used to help develop potential alternatives that will be evaluated and presented during the second round of public involvement scheduled in mid-2025.

Fairfax County Seeks Feedback on 5-Year Transportation Priorities Plan

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) is seeking public feedback on the proposed Fiscal Year 2025-2030 Transportation Priorities Plan (TPP). The proposed plan anticipates an estimated $3.9 billion to fund continued investment in more than 300 existing priority projects, including interchanges, road widenings, new road construction, active transportation projects, transit planning studies and traffic calming initiatives. A list of proposed projects and investments can be found on the TPP website.

Rolling Road Widening Phase II is one project of the TPP (click to expand)

Public comments on the proposed play may be submitted online beginning July 2 via Public Input. The website contains a pre-recorded overview of the TPP and space to submit online comments. Comments may also be submitted by telephone or U.S. Mail using the instructions provided on the site. All comments must be submitted and received by 4:30 p.m., on Wednesday, July 23.
