MAC Performing Arts: Fall Performances & Special Events

The MAC Performing Arts departments want to invite the community to some of their quarterly end-of-term performances! All events are free and open to the public and take place in the MAC Auditorium. Take a look below - we hope to see you there!

Page to Stage Presents: Swords, Sorcery, & Summer School

Tuesday, December 2 at 7:00 pm

Tuesday, December 9 at 5:00 pm

Directed by MAC Studio Theatre Directors Timothy Scarrott and Dawn Panttaja, come watch our young actors perform a fully staged adaptation! The runtime is about 30 minutes. Performances are free and open to the public, but donations are gladly accepted.

Summer is here and school is out! Unfortunately, there’s no summer vacation for our young wizards, as they’ll be attending mandatory summer school with a strange new professor. As usual, there’s a battle of good versus evil, but this time wands are not allowed!

Annual MAC Literary Arts Reading

Wednesday, December 6 at 6:00 pm

Come join the MAC Literary Arts department as we showcase our fall student writers and faculty through poetry, prose, and more. Featuring works from Christopher Luna, Sherri Levine, and Nick Herb. Snacks and refreshments will be provided!

Studio Theatre Presents: Scrooge & Marley

Friday and Saturday, December 5 and 6 at 7:00 pm

Sunday, December 7 at 2:00 pm

Directed by Timothy Scarrott and Dawn Panttaja, you are invited to come watch this fully staged production being put on by our Studio Theatre students! The runtime is about 60 minutes. Performances are free and open to the public, but donations are gladly accepted.

Marley was dead. However, that did not stop him from haunting his old business partner, Ebeneezer Scrooge, and from trying to steal the show. This class offers professional rehearsal time, culminating in a fully staged one-hour show. Join us as we explore all the famous characters from Charles Dickens' classic holiday tale, especially Marley's Ghost. Did I mention that Marley was dead?

MAC Music Showcase

Wednesday, December 10 at 7:00 pm

You are cordially invited to a music showcase being put on by some of MAC's newest music ensembles and classes! Featuring performances from Modern Band and original works by Songwriting students, come enjoy music and connect with others in a relaxed atmosphere.

Community Engagement Recap: Halloween at MAC

The Multnomah Arts Center’s Community Engagement team participated in this year’s Multnomah Village Trick or Treat event by crafting a fun and memorable family photo op station on the MAC front lawn. There were several handmade cutout characters available, along with a spooky backdrop, for an unlimited number of fun photo choices. Staff were on hand to coordinate families and friends, and to serve as the designated photographer so everyone could share in the memory!

The photo op station was a popular destination with thousands of residents and visitors passing through the neighborhood over the course of the event. MAC staff gave away 500 sketchbooks and hundreds of other creative treats to local kids who stopped by. Thank you to everyone who came by and included MAC in their Halloween festivities!

2026 Exhibition Calendar

Exhibits in MAC’s Front & Center Galleries are scheduled via an annual Call for Art. The selection committee that reviews applications is formed anew each year when we invite two curators from the community to participate. This year we are thrilled to be working with Melanie Stevens and Celeste Noche.

January 15 – February 21, 2026

Front Gallery: Marilyn Cisneros

Marilyn Cisneros is a Yaqui-Mexican-American artist who works primarily in mixed media, papier-mâché and hojalata tin art, a traditional Mexican craft. “I am drawn to the ways culture, community, and nature intersect in the maternal journey, and I use my work to highlight both the resilience, and the vulnerability found in caregiving.”

Center Gallery: Latoya Lovely and Stephanie Anderson

Latoya Lovely is a mixed media artist who focuses on storytelling through her art. “I’m greatly inspired by South African Artist and hair stylist, Lebohang Lang Motaung, through her use of synthetic hair.” Lovely’s work addresses “colorism, a form of racism where those with lighter skin and European features are given preference over those with darker skin; and texturism, which is the discrimination against people with kinkier, coarse hair within the same race.”

Stephanie Anderson is an oil painter. She experienced a life-altering medical diagnosis in 2015 that reshaped her sense of self. “Soul City is a collection of oil paintings inspired by her previous #msskateproject photograph series. It represents a deeply personal evolution that bridges fear, grief, healing, identity and resilience. I use oil on canvas to merge my beloved Roller Derby subculture with a fine art form.”

Join reception: Saturday, January 22 from 1:00-3:00 pm

February 27 – April, 4, 2026

Front Gallery: Michael F. McDonald

Michael F. McDonald creates wheel-thrown ceramic vessels that are then vibrantly colored and often patterned using a variety of techniques, including slip painting and carving. “The pressure to conform to societal norms is real. My ceramics work is inspired by my desire to break free to explore the human condition without any stifling external influence. I have both masculine and feminine aspects to myself, and my work comes from a place where I seek to express a balance between the two.”

Center Gallery: Joy Kloman

Joy Kloman creates paintings that combine both figurative and abstract or patterned elements. “My artistic practice is an exploration of temporality. The sourced vintage photographs referenced in my art are a black and white record of days that have passed. In my figurative paintings, I have added color and a fluorescent underpainting, creating tension between past and present.”

Join reception: Saturday, January 22 from 1:00-3:00 pm

MAC Staff Spotlight: Justin Bower, Recreation Lead

Justin Bower is the newest member of the MAC staff team, but not to Parks and Recreation. Before coming to MAC, Justin was a Front Desk worker at Matt Dishman Community center while working on his film degree. Now, Justin works as a support to the Front Desk and works diligently maintaining organizational systems behind the desk. The recent speed and efficiency of our new music scheduling system was a collaborative project between him, Music Recreation Leader Kelly Mason, and Performing Arts Coordinator Patrick Browne.

In his personal time, he works on his webcomic, PARANOiD, and collaborates with his long-term friend and creative partner Mikii B. He’s a regular horror fan and writer, and enjoys a spirited conversation. You can see their works at paranoidcomic.com.
