The annual MACA Winter Arts & Crafts Sale will be back this December!
Three times each year, the Multnomah Arts Center Association’s board and volunteers put on an Arts & Crafts Sale that attracts buyers from around the city to purchase local handmade artwork that supports the artists and the arts education programs of MAC. Artists are reimbursed 65% of their total sales and MACA keeps the remaining amount to reinvest into MAC’s programs.

Directed by MAC Studio Theatre Directors Timothy Scarrott and Dawn Panttaja, come watch our young actors perform a fully staged adaptation! The runtime is about 30 minutes. Performances are free and open to the public, but donations are gladly accepted.
Summer is here and school is out! Unfortunately, there’s no summer vacation for our young wizards, as they’ll be attending mandatory summer school with a strange new professor. As usual, there’s a battle of good versus evil, but this time wands are not allowed!

Studio Theatre Presents: Scrooge & Marley

Directed by Timothy Scarrott and Dawn Panttaja, you are invited to come watch this fully staged production being put on by our Studio Theatre students! The runtime is about 60 minutes. Performances are free and open to the public, but donations are gladly accepted.
Marley was dead. However, that did not stop him from haunting his old business partner, Ebeneezer Scrooge, and from trying to steal the show. This class offers professional rehearsal time, culminating in a fully staged one-hour show. Join us as we explore all the famous characters from Charles Dickens' classic holiday tale, especially Marley's Ghost. Did I mention that Marley was dead?

Front Gallery: Portland Zine Symposium group show (through October 25)
Zines are a form of self-publishing and come in various sizes, formats, and types of content. They can be personal stories, comics, poetry, writing, news about figures or political causes, and nuts-and-bolts information to use in your community. The Portland Zine Symposium has been hosting an annual conference in Portland since 2001. This exhibition will highlight the work of past participating artists and showcase this important part of the Portland arts community. Several of the artists will be giving a reading of their work at MAC on October 9 at 7:00 pm and will have their zines for sale.
Center Gallery: MAC Faculty Biennial
This biennial showcases the artistic achievements of the wonderful instructors at the Multnomah Arts Center. Their skill is evident across disciplines and in diverse media. Textiles, ceramics, photography, woodwork, metalwork, printmaking, painting, and poetry are all among the works that will be on display.

Center Gallery: Jere M. Grimm
“From Afra to Iris: A Journey into the Third Age” is a retrospective exhibition of work by Jere M. Grimm. Jere has a career spanning over 70 years and has long been an integral part of the Pacific Northwest arts community. This exhibition will include many examples of her past work in ceramics, textiles and ink drawings along with her current work in poetry. Through these mediums she has spent a lifetime exploring themes of the sacred feminine, environmentalism, and restoration. “I have gratefully spent a long lifetime exploring a variety of media and settings and feel privileged as a Third Age artist to share them with the viewer here.”

| | | MAC Staff Spotlight: Maya Celeste, Community Engagement Lead | | |
Maya joined MAC as the new Community Engagement Lead. She has previous experience as a community arts program manager at the Lone Tree Arts Center in Colorado and was a middle school visual arts teacher in the Denver metro area for 5 years. She has her BFA in Illustration from Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design. Maya is also a veteran of the U.S. Navy where she spent 11 years as a Cryptologic Linguist.
Maya is married to her partner Nate and is a proud parent of three amazing kids. Her two oldest live in Maya’s home state of California, and her youngest is in high school. She lives in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge along with the family’s two senior dogs and two middle-aged cats.
