MCC missionaries in action
MCC missionaries are on location this week in the Dominican Republic and St. Croix. We are proud of these participants giving of their time to be the hands and feet of Christ to those in need. May God bless and protect them on this journey.
Day of reflection for seniors
On February 7, the senior class of 2020 visited Life for Youth Retreat Center in Vero Beach to take part in the annual Senior Retreat. During their time away, the seniors reflected on their time as members of the community of Melbourne Central Catholic. During the day, the seniors were invited to write letters of affirmation to each other and to share their high school memories with their peers. It was a day filled with peace, prayer, and God's love.
Tierney named National Merit Finalist
We are proud to announce that Lauren Tierney was named a National Merit Finalist. She was selected out of the 16,000 semi-finalists announced in September. Please help us congratulate Lauren on her impressive achievement!
Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards
Congratulations to Junior Delaney Goins and Senior Abby Pallo for winning a Silver Key and receiving an Honorable Mention, respectively, for their writing entries to the Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards (SAWA) competition. Delaney's said her "essay reflects the changing definition of the American Dream in a society that is ever-divisive and in constant search of our meaning as humans." Abby's entry, in her words "is a science-fiction essay about the descendants of the Brothers Grimm and what they would do in the modern world." Based on Delaney's finish, she is now eligible for a Scholastic Awards Summer (SAS) scholarship which is a need- and merit-based scholarship for 7–11 grade students who received a Gold or Silver Key.
Scouts honored with Ad Altare Dei emblem
These Scouts received the honor of the Ad Altare Dei emblem on February 9 at our Lady of Lourdes. We congratulate our students Alfred Annas, Adam Kleier, Mason McCormick, John Struckman, James Struckman for this tremendous accomplishment! Pastor Fr. Doug Bailey also informed the boys during the ceremony that he received this award when he was a young man.

The purpose of the Ad Altare Dei (to the altar of God) program is to help Catholic youth develop a fully Christian way of life in the faith community. The program is organized in chapters based on the seven sacraments which promote spiritual growth. The most important aspect of the program is that the Scout grows in his spiritual experience of his relationship to God and the church.
Projects focus on evolution
Mrs. Good's Biology class has been studying evolution. Her students were assigned a cross-curricular project in which they had to research the evolution of everyday items. Check out this impressive video presentation by Nathan M. on the evolution of Mickey Mouse.
And the verdict is...
On February 8, the MCC Mock Trial team participated in the multi-county annual contest. The competition was with all high schools in the 18th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida, which covers all of Brevard and Seminole counties. The case was heard in courtroom 2A at the Viera Courthouse.
For several months the Mock Trial team has been practicing almost daily to understand the case and perfect their part in the case. Read more
