Students empowered to engage in future planning

It's never too early to begin preparing for the 2021-22 school year and beyond! Guidance Counselors recently met with underclassmen to discuss the timeline of course selection for the next school year. Students learned about several college resources to support their academic planning and the School Counseling Google Classroom that provides alerts of important information and announcements. Students were also introduced to the Naviance platform. This valuable instrument helps students achieve their goals by developing skills critical for college, career, and life.
Giving Day will be here soon! 2.2.21

Impact today’s students with a gift to the MCC Fund; your investment supports every aspect of our student’s experience both in and out of the classroom.

Your commitment also supports our Hustlers Helping Hustlers initiative, a special fund to support financial aid for families helping us keep an MCC education affordable to as many families as we can.

Join MCC Mini Dance Marathon on March 13

Our annual Mini Dance Marathon is back! This fundraising event is in partnership with UCF’s Knight-Thon. It raises money for the children at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. The event is March 13th and will include lots of activities and food for everyone to enjoy. At the event, we stand for 8 hours to show that we “stand for the kids that can’t.” We hope many of you can join us in supporting the kids! If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Mrs. Head, Katherine Laird, or Christina Cabrera. If any students are interested in joining the morale team, please click here to sign up. See you there!
Continuous Improvement Survey

As noted earlier in the year, to help us continue to move MCC forward, we will be working with the Excellence with Integrity Institute, a mission driven organization that helps schools with culture, to implement continuous improvement surveys here at MCC.

On January 26, we will open the parent survey. The survey is anonymous, takes about 20 minutes to complete online, and gives parents the opportunity to share both what works well at MCC and opportunities for improvement. The survey focuses on key areas of each family’s MCC experience:

  • Instructional Quality
  • Constituent Relations
  • Operational Excellence
  • Financial Health
  • Covid 19
  • Racial/Social Justice
  • Overall Satisfaction

We will close the survey on February 19, 2021.

Students and staff completed the survey in December (we are reviewing the results).
Mark your calendars!

Our goal this year has been to continually assess our academic programs and the social-emotional health of all as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. In December, the staff of MCC met to explore changes to our school calendar that would increase teacher collaboration and preparation time as well as make a positive impact on the social and emotional wellbeing of our students and staff. We have adjusted our second semester calendar changing the dismissal times of most Fridays.

Cadet life

Our Cadet Corps/Leadership students are engaged in learning the basics of intelligence data analysis and assessment based on real-world events. This process gradually hones the students' decision-making process through deep critical thinking. Additionally, students continue to train in stationary close-order drill, rifle drill movements, and basic military knowledge.
Insightful peer reviews

The AP Art and Design class utilizes peer critiques to examine portfolio work. Each student chooses a conceptual idea and explores this throughout the year. Peer critiques are one way students learn to develop their ideas and speak about their work.

Budding entrepreneurs formalize business ideas

Each year, Honors Economics and Economics classes participate in the Shark Tank challenge. Students work individually or in groups to create a business plan and seek investors for their company. They select presentation themes based on the popular show.

Dooley...called to serve

This is the placement notice for Dooley, the Southeastern Guide Dog (SEGD) puppy in training sponsored by NHS in honor of Mr. Tom Dooley and raised by Mr. Jon Sperling.

Following his puppy training with Mr. Sperling, Dooley was fast-tracked into guide dog training, but after being diagnosed with cataracts, Dooley’s guide dog training shifted to placement in a Gold Star Family home. Read more
Ready for the spring season?

Our spring sports season begins next week. If you are interested in being a part of the action, please reach out to the designated coach for each team. All students need to have updated athletic forms turned in to Mr. Henry's office in the Donovan Commons. Click here to access the required forms and links to the three mandatory FHSAA online courses. If you have played in the fall or winter seasons of this year, you do not need to redo them. If you have any questions, contact Ed Henry.
