Momentum at MPH
It was a big week for MPH. Not only did our community take part in various eclipse viewing parties on Monday, but on Thursday we held our annual Giving Day to much success, and our first in-person Open House since 2019, with dozens of prospective families touring campus. And in between the fundraising and recruitment were the lessons taught, the games played, the presentations made, and the joyous celebrations of our community.

Last year’s report by the Surgeon General sounded a new alarm about the impact of social media on students, teachers, and families. The challenges it diagnosed seem to have only grown in frequency and prominence since. We recommend re-reading the SG’s report, as well as this thought-provoking article about smartphones by Jonathan Haidt in The Atlantic, and his interview on NPR.
What new understandings have we developed about the impact of smartphone use on students’ learning, relationships, and well-being? How have those impacts been felt in the MPH community? In your family? What recommendations do MPH educators and families have for one another? How can we support one another?
Join school administrators in a frank discussion of our collective experience, the challenges and opportunities it presents, and how we might think differently about school policies and our shared parenting commitments to create a healthier, stronger school community for our children.
MPH will offer a separate Special Coverage Program for grades PreK-5 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the Center for Early Learning. (The MPH Extended Day program will end at 5:30 p.m. as usual. There will not be an extension from 5:30-6:00 p.m.) The cost for the coverage will be $20/student. Please register here.

What a day for MPH! Thank you to our community for making MPH Giving Day a resounding success. Over the course of the day, we surpassed our goal by securing 200 gifts and raising $75,000 for the MPH Annual Fund. We could not do this without you!
A special thank you to our Board of Trustees for their generosity, committing $30,000 in matching funds, two anonymous donors who came forward with additional challenges, and parents Neel Shah and Julie Oh for pushing us to 200 donors with their participation challenge. Thank you as well to our Giving Day volunteers for handing out muffins at drop-off and for encouraging the team through the day.
After the success of Giving Day, parent participation increased from 62% to 69% (with some classes at almost 90%!) as we reached $406,884 raised towards our year-end goal of $479,000.
It was a joy to celebrate our faculty and staff and highlight the critical importance of the Annual Fund in supporting their work. The Giving Day page will stay “live” for 4 more days for those who would still like to participate and keep the momentum of the day going.
We are so grateful for our community and for everyone who has contributed to the MPH Annual Fund this year. While tuition is the main revenue source for the school, it only covers a portion of the school’s yearly operating costs. Your participation in the Annual Fund is what makes MPH possible. We appreciate you!

It’s hard to believe commencement is less than two months away (Sunday, June 9 at 2:00 p.m. on the Upper Field). We understand some families have begun preparing for commencement and are looking forward to having extended family in town for this milestone event. Commencement invitations have been printed for the senior class. Each senior will be receiving ten invitations.
Seniors – please stop by the Division Office at your convenience and pick up your envelope containing your 10 commencement invitations. Each envelope is labeled with your name and organized alphabetically by last name. Envelopes are located on the countertop next to Mr. Montas’ office door.
