Students pile into the Phoenix for the United States' historic game against Iran
The goal came a little early for the younger kids who couldn't escape the last period of class to see, but the mood in the Phoenix was celebratory this week as MPH students shuffled couches and chairs into position to watch the US Men's National Team as it qualified for the round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup by advancing past Iran in a tense, remarkably contested final group stage game.

You'll find the weekly lunch menu here in Snapshot every Friday, but it also lives on the MPH website (you can find it through the direct link or on the left column of myMPH). And this week we welcome the return of Nutrislice, which lets users sort menu items by nutritional data, ingredients, and allergens.

Roots and Shoots Club Holding Holiday Book and Bottle Drive
The Roots and Shoots Club is holding a holiday Book and Bottle Drive from Dec. 12 to Dec. 16 during which MPH families can bring in bottle and cans and leave them in bins posted around the school. Any refundable cans and bottles are welcome. The club will then return the bottles and donate the profit to the Sierra Club. In addition, the club is hoping to collect any old books that families have outgrown. To promote the reuse of books, the books will be given to the Salvation Army.

French III Students Animate Animal Fables
Students In French III studied Jean de la Fontaine's adapted (1621-95) charming animal fables that depict sly foxes and scheming cats, vain birds, and greedy wolves this week, all of which subtly express his penetrating insights into French society. In groups, they created stop-motion animation shorts with their own recitations of their assigned fable. They created characters with pâte à modeler and had so much fun giving voice and personality to all their characters. It was a great project for pronunciation practice and cooperative work.

Land of Lost Items Getting Overpopulated
Some unlabeled items have taken up longterm residence in the MPH Lost and Found, so it might be a good time before the holiday break to send your student search party out looking for that coat you haven't seen in a few months, or the soccer ball, or the NY Giants cap (hey, they're good again, you can wear it with pride!).

2022-2023 MPH Lower School Gift Policy:

-
While we greatly appreciate the generosity of our community, we request that any gestures of thanks (at holidays, end-of-the-year, etc.) are focused on the Lower School Amazon Classroom Wish List (see QR code below). This link will be updated by LS teachers throughout our year.
