More than 100 come out to cheer on our own linesman

|
|
More than 100 members of the MPH community came out to the MPH Night at the Syracuse Crunch game on January 16 to see not only the Crunch defeat the Utica Comets 5-1 but, far more importantly, watch MPH's own Core Health Teacher and AHL Linesman Jay Brown call the game from the ice. Jay, whose enthusiasm is a constant source of energy and joy on the MPH campus, even got in the mix as he helped to break up a few scuffles between the I-90 rivals.

Middle School Dance Set for January 27
As you may have heard from your child(ren), we will be hosting our first Middle School Dance on Friday, January 27 from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. Honoring a long-standing tradition and celebrating their final year in the Middle School, the 8th graders receive a bonus 30 minutes and may stay until 10:00 p.m. A special thanks to Ms. Rai, Ms. Bentley Hoke, and students on the MS Leadership Team who have been busy with the preparations.
We are encouraging students to dress up beyond everyday school attire, but there is no need to wear anything formal or make special purchases. Admission for the dance is $5.00, which covers snacks, beverages, decorations, and other costs. Students may purchase their tickets from Ms. Rai any time before the dance.
If you have specific questions about the dance, please feel free to email me at mspear@mphschool.org. We look forward to a fun evening on the 27th!

Building Fort MPH (and Community)
Grade 5 students take the expression "building a community" quite literally this week. Students have been working on building forts in the wooded areas near the lower field this year. In the picture above, the students are all working together to move a large, felled tree trunk out of the way. The community building, problem solving, exploration, and connecting with nature are all experiences that will create unique and lasting memories for this group of students.

Bringing Some Musical "Sunshine" to the Dreary Days
Lower School K-5 students and teachers got a laugh when they entered the theater for LS Assembly this morning as Ms. Abdo and Mrs. Ricciardiello greeted them from beach chairs on the stage as music played. The assembly focused on the recent dreary CNY weather and ways students and teachers can help bring some “sunshine” to these rainy days. They talked about how this weather can make kids and adults feel “yucky” and “grumpy,” but that we all have the ability to change our mood by playing music, focusing on cozy activities that bring us comfort, and being kind and warm to others in our community. They read and discussed the picture book Say Something by Peter Hamilton Reynolds about how our words and actions can change our community … and the world. Each student left with a small seashell to remind them that we all have the power to bring the sunny beach to any day!
