Celebrating in the Sun
Red and White Day Sends the Seniors Off in Style
The sense of glory pursued that was so palpable at Winter Fest Parts I and II was softened for Red and White Day by the rustling May breeze and by the sense of things coming to an end. It was the seniors' last day, after all. Campus was light and sweet, laughter everywhere and the first hint of the yoke of a scheduled life loosening for the younger ones. There were outdoor games of jump rope, bean bag toss, and potato sack races. There were throwing competitions, as well as kicking, jumping, and running. There was even someone on a tiny BMX bike just wandering, rolling in circles, untethered. It was a good start to the ending season of school. And a good end to the long drag from January to now.
Return of the Reverse Handshake
The Reverse Handshake returned to the campus quad this year, with seniors lining up to say farewell to teachers, staff, and their fellow Upper School students. Fist bumps were the order of the day, but also a lot of hugs and even a few games of rock-paper-scissors.
The Lifers
A group of seniors gathered on the Center for Early Learning Playground after the Reverse Handshake to celebrate a unique milestone – they'd all attended MPH since Pre-K or Kindergarten. (Note: Bella Vural couldn't attend)

So Many Videos of the Week,
and We Have Plenty of Time
Slow 'er down and enjoy
In lieu of a fifth-grade play this year, a longstanding MPH tradition, Jennifer Concepcion and Maria Ricciardiello instead gave each fifth-grade student the opportunity to be part of an intricate process that has included script writing, revising, acting, and, this week, filming. Students learned about important aspects of a play’s full production including stage directions, props/prop creation, scenery, lighting, signage, film editing, as well as the incorporation of music and special effects. And, the class was very lucky to have Raphael Concepcion (“RC”) from Syracuse’s own Newhouse School of Public Communications join them to film and edit their production. Thank you to Mr. Concepcion for his time and expertise!

Their film, Expired, debuted for a small audience on May 6 in the Coville Theater but is now available to the entire MPH community.
Our own in-house, student-led production team Light & Magic shared this tribute to the Class of 2022 at the All-School Meeting this week. From All-School Meetings to concert to highlights to science fair coverage, the Light & Magic team does amazing work. It's worth checking their website for a review of the 2021-2022 school year.

To see our current standings, visit our MPH Giving Day page.
The Scene Around MPH
Fun with Slime Polymers
Sixth-grade scientists combined a study of the electromagnetic spectrum and color with polymer chemistry as they used only primary colors to achieve a predetermined polymer color of their choosing. A mixture of glue, water, and borax found scientists witnessing the borate molecule attaching glue molecules to form much longer, stretchy, and fun polymer molecules. In classic sixth-grader fashion, students then added hand soap, additional water, or additional borax to investigate how the polymer then changed.

Repertory Dance Concert Offers Variety
MPH preview | Wednesday May 18 at 4 p.m.
Opening night | Thursday May 19 at 7 p.m.
Saturday May 21 | 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Tickets are free and no reservations are required.
The Repertory Dance concert focuses on introducing dancers to historic choreographers and important movement works from around the world. Dancers learn movements reconstructed from video, and have the chance to step into a
many different styles for an immersive learning experience. By spending a semester on these pieces, students learn a number of new dance vocabularies in depth. These hands-on experiences with movement outside of what they know leads to a broader global and historical understanding of the important role movement
plays in community and expression, and builds technical versatility, too.
In the 2022 Dance Rep concert, you’ll see dancers of all experience levels and backgrounds come together to perform seminal works from the past and present.

From cultural dance that has been around for centuries, to an American social dance style born out of the Harlem Renaissance; through the strange and visceral performance art era of the 1970s, all the way to smash hit choreography the early 2000s and contemporary works touring internationally today, prepare to join
us on a vibrant, joyous journey through time and space.
Senior Publishes Aspiring Vets Guidebook
Eden Hildebrandt recently published the handbook A Guidebook for Aspiring Veterinarians as a part of her Senior Thesis Project while doing a career internship research at a local veterinary hospital. The guidebook aims to help high school and undergraduate students decide if they want to pursue becoming a veterinarian and understand the veterinary school application process.

The handbook is available on Amazon and all proceeds will be donated to the Humane Association of CNY. Eden has a history with the shelter, having organized a Holiday Supply Drive with fellow senior Matthew Roberson.
