MPH Screening Science of Reading Doc at Le Moyne
Manlius Pebble Hill School is excited to announce a free viewing of The Right to Read on Wednesday, May 24 at 6:30 p.m. at Le Moyne College. This is a film by Jenny Mackenzie and executive produced by LeVar Burton (of Reading Rainbow fame).

The Right to Read shares the stories of a courageous Oakland NAACP activist, Kareem Weaver, a teacher, Sabrina Causey, and two American families who are all advocating for science-based reading instruction nationwide.

At MPH, we are passionate about literacy instruction that aligns with the Science of Reading and all of our K-5 students are instructed according to this method. We’re thrilled to be hosting this event for the CNY community to bring attention to the critical importance of science-based reading instruction.

There are two options for film viewing:

In Person Screening on 5/24
In-person at the Le Moyne College Campus Center, James Commons (first floor). Doors open at 6 p.m. Film will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed at by a panel discussion featuring Dr. Maria Murray, Dr. Sheila Clonan, NY Assemblymember Robert Carroll, and Attorney Patrick Radel. Please register in advance for a seat! Eventbrite Link Here

MPH Apparel Store
NOTE: The only option for delivery of these orders is shipping to an address customers provide. There will be no orders from this store delivered to the school.

The official Manlius Pebble Hill clothing store is now live with a wide variety of selections for all sizes, genders, and ages. A couple key points:

  • It's an online store, but it's open for the whole year
  • We have two designs available now - a script Manlius Pebble Hill School and an "MPH" option; you'll see the selections in the drop-down menus for each item
  • We'll be adding designs throughout the year, so keep checking back - and check Snapshot - we'll let you know when we've got new items
Sixth Grade Works to Improve Upper Field

Grade 6 continues to work on their Service Project: improving the Upper Field. Much of the class plans on playing modified sports next year and identified this need on campus. They've gotten started by spreading topsoil and seeding the worn-out areas around the soccer goal.
Middle Schoolers Headed to All-County This Weekend

Congratulation to our Middle School students who will be participating in the Elementary Onondaga All-County Music Festival this weekend at Henninger High School. The choral concert will begin at 2:00 p.m., and the instrumental concert will begin at 3:00 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door. Bravo to Leo Abdo, 6th, chorus; Sarah Capozollo, 6th, orchestra, Soni DeVincents, 5th, orchestra; Gibson Foster, 6th, cello; and Jayden Lin, 6th, cello.
Recognizing Nurse Christine on School Nurse Day

May 10 is National School Nurses Day, and we are lucky to have the best ("one of the best" just seems like an untruth) school nurse who has ever nursed. Nurse Christine Civello not only guided us through COVID and the myriad testing requirements and logistics, but also tends to our students' (and staff, on occasion) needs large and small, seemingly trivial and serious. She is a constant presence on campus, a LEGO enthusiast who is willing to share her passion with the students, and an integral part of life at MPH. Be sure to show your gratitude this coming Wednesday, or just stay healthy for the day. That's a gift in itself.
Reminder: Sophomore to Perform Sunday as Soloist
with Symphoria Youth Orchestra
Alexa Rose Battaglia, winner of the 2023 Symphoria Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, will perform Mozart’s Concerto No. 3 in G Major as a soloist with the Symphoria Young Artists Orchestra on Sunday, May 7, at 3:30 pm.

Ticket information can be found here.
West Meets East in Elective Class
Ms. Kuo's West Meets East class has dedicated May to celebrating Asian culture in our community. They are exploring various aspects of Asian popular culture. Cup noodles are definitely a popular and iconic Asian food. Students have learned about cup noodles’ marketing strategies and its cultural significance behind the success. In the following weeks, the class will be delving into other aspects of Asian popular culture, such as anime and music. The diverse and rich range of cultural expressions in Asian pop culture can provide valuable insights into the region’s history, values, and social trends.
Scenes from the Sunny Side of Spring
Extended Day students were able to enjoy some gorgeous weather outside last week before the rain set in this week. Hopefully some more outdoor time is on its way.
MPH Goes to the Opera
Mr. Eighmey joined a group of MPH students last week at Syracuse Opera's production of The Marriage of Figaro. The opera offered free student tickets for showings.
Not All Who Wander Are Lost
(but they will be by summer)
The Lost and Found has grown substantially in the past few months, so send your student down to find those missing sneakers, coats, shirts, hats, bags, gloves, snowboards (!), water bottles, coffee mugs, and, apparently, poker games.
MPH PA Collecting Outgrown MPH Gear

The MPH Parents’ Association is collecting MPH T-shirts and gear kids have outgrown or no longer use. Some will be used to make a T-shirt quilt for the Spring Gala’s silent auction, the rest will be available on Red and White Day (May 12) at no cost.

Please look through closets and drawers and help us out! We will be collecting through Red and White day. There is a drop off bin near the campus shop.
