Lower School students did a lot of work to honor veterans this week, and that work was rewarded by a visit from Clear Path for Veterans puppy-in-training Chubba, a golden retriever who recently joined the program. Clear Path provides community support, programming, and direct services for veterans. In addition to the visit from Chubba, LS students put together Thanksgiving baskets for veterans, K-Grade 2 drew pictures and made thank you cards, and Grades 3-5 conducted a successful canned food drive.

Thank You!
Thank you to everyone who participated in our first week of Two of Tuesday. We’re off to a great start, raising close to $27,000. With gratitude, we extend thanks to our generous donors who offered up first-week challenges: current MPH parents Cami Riley and Phil Rubenstein, who kicked us off with a $10,000 match, and an anonymous alumna who made a second match of $5,000.
There are still opportunities to join in the Two for Tuesday fun. Come back each Tuesday in November to make your gift count more! To make a gift, or see who has donated, visit our site: Two for Tuesday 2022 · GiveCampus.

Kindergarten Star Student and Scientist of the Week
Family Members from Four Continents Join Zoom!
Each Kindergarteners has a week throughout the year where they tell their classmates and teachers more about themselves. The students work to create a poster to tell their story, their favorite hobbies, family members, places they have traveled, and things they love. As a class, each student makes a special page in a book for their Star Student classmates that describes what makes them a Star Student. During their week as Star Student, they are also the Star Scientist, when they pick a science experiment and work through the Scientific Method. On Friday, they present their experiment to the class.
As we moved through the pandemic, Kindergarten has kept a few things that helped to connect our classroom and our families, one being having families join us on Zoom for their child’s Star Student presentation and Star Scientist experiment.
This past week, Kindergarten had their first Star Student, Mourad. Mourad’s family joined Zoom from four different continents: Asia, Europe, Africa, and North America! He had family from Syracuse, Macau (China), London (UK), and Alexandria (Egypt). What an experience for Kindergarten as they explored the map of the world looking at where all of Mourad’s family lived along with the time differences for each of them while Zooming.

Back to Nursery School, en Français
French II students experienced a day in l' école maternelle (nursery school) this week. Students brought from home their security blankets, stuffed animals, and favorite childhood picture books and followed a typical French nursery school day routine. They sang classic French childhood songs, talked about their stuffies, and translated their favorite childhood books. This was a great way to build community, and review some basic vocabulary like shapes, numbers, colors, and animals. They had lots of fun exchanging stories about what life was like back in l' école maternelle.

Parents who wish for students to participate must fill out consent
|
On Wednesday, November 16, the Manlius Lions Club will be coming to campus to complete vision screenings for students. This is primarily aimed at Lower School students but is available to Middle and Upper school students as well. This is a non-invasive, painless, and quick opportunity that requires no medication or preparation. Their equipment offers technology that can diagnose many vision problems an eye chart would miss, particularly in our youngest students. For more information go to www.lionskidsightusa.org.
The vision screening does require parental permission. We ask you to complete and return the consent form if you are interested in having your child screened. Please return it in your student’s folder or to the Health Office no later than Monday, November 14. Questions may be sent to our school nurse Christine Civello.
