Fast Start for MPH Athletes in Sectionals
Boys Soccer wins 4-0; Amitees Fazeli wins singles title and qualifies for states
The 10th-seeded MPH Trojans boys soccer team got its sectionals journey off to a strong start Thursday afternoon with a 4-0 victory over seven-seed McGraw at McGraw, putting an exclamation point on a season that has seen a young team find its footing against tough opponents in Section III. The 8-6-1 MPH squad got three goals and an assist from sophomore Sam Lurvey and another goal from his sophomore brother, Nick Lurvey, along with five saves from senior goalkeeper Will Markwood. The win puts MPH into the quarterfinal round against second-seeded Lyme at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 22 at Lyme. The Lakers enter the game with a 14-2 record having defeated 15-seed DeRuyter 4-1 in their opening round sectional game.
Continuing her distinguished career at MPH, which has seen appearances in the state tournament for doubles with her sister, Parmees '22, Amitees Fazeli won the Section III Div. IV singles crown with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Samantha Booth of Watertown IHC last week and then qualified to represent Section III in the state singles tournament by finishing second in this week's state qualified at Drumlins Tennis Club in Syracuse. The state tournament is scheduled to run from Thursday, Oct. 27 through Oct. 29 at the SportsTime facility in Schenectady.

MPH Apparel is Here
And you can buy online any time
The official Manlius Pebble Hill clothing store is now live with a wide variety of selections for all sizes, genders, and ages. A couple key points:

  • It's an online store, but it's open for the whole year
  • We have two designs available now - a script Manlius Pebble Hill School and an "MPH" option; you'll see the selections in the drop-down menus for each item
  • We'll be adding designs throughout the year, so keep checking back - and check Snapshot - we'll let you know when we've got new items
Weekly Lunch Menu
You'll find the weekly lunch menu here in Snapshot every Friday, but it also lives on the MPH website (you can find it through the direct link or on the left column of myMPH). And this week we welcome the return of Nutrislice, which lets users sort menu items by nutritional data, ingredients, and allergens.
Building Spanish Skills
Students in Ms. Trouyet's Spanish Grade 6 class practiced their skills last week by doing simultaneous presentations during which they drew and wrote about their families, while changing partners after one-minute intervals throughout the presentations. Ms. Trouyet said it was a great way to build community and gets lots of language practice.
October Events for the Lower School
  • Friday, Oct. 28, PreK-5 students will be invited to participate in a pumpkin picking scavenger hunt in the MPH STEAM Park.

  • Monday, Oct. 31, will be our MPH Fall Festival. Lower School teachers will fill this day with fall-themed learning activities that may involve pumpkins, harvest themes, STEAM experiments, art projects, read-alouds, math games, music/dance, and writing as it relates to their particular grade/class.

  • Please note that Lower School students will not wear Halloween costumes to school on Monday Oct. 31. Costumes, wigs, masks, and face paint/makeup are a distraction to our youngest learners and prevent them from actively engaging in planned lessons and activities. Lower School students are welcome to wear a fall or Halloween themed T-shirt or accessory on Monday, Oct. 31.

  • In accordance with our MPH Food Allergy Safety Protocols, please do not send any food, snacks, or treats for your child to eat or share with their class. Chef Christine and her dining hall staff will share a special nut-/egg-free treat with our students as part of our MPH Fall Festival.
Canine Cognition Gets Expert Guest Demonstrator
Ms. Bonacorsi's Upper School Canine Cognition class had some expert guests on campus this week when Connie Cosemento and her dog Micco visited to demonstrate several agility techniques for the class. Micco is a champion agility dog, and Connie described the training process to the students as well as some evidence of how agility training helps dogs' mental and physical health.
Dog Week Theme Continues: Service Dog Visits Core Health
Grade 10 students got a visit this week from another canine friend as MPH Alum Casey Eberhardt '15 visited from Clear Path for Veterans with a puppy she is working to train to eventually become a companion for a vet. Clear Path supports veterans through programming, community building, and direct services, including providing service dogs. Casey explained the rigorous training their dogs undergo and let the students spend a little time with her puppy.
Getting Out and Looking Up
Last week during G.O.Time, Mr. Jaconski and Ms. Magagnoli took advantage of the clear weather and brought a pair of telescopes outside for students to use. There was one telescope pointed at the moon and another equipped with a solar filter giving students a rare opportunity to safely view the sun.
MS Students Take Global Math Week Challenge
Middle School students participated in Global Math Week from October 10-17. They were given a challenge problem of the day for each day that week and given a piece of candy when they solved the daily problem correctly. At the conclusion of the week, a drawing for all students who solved all four correctly was held and the winner, Isaac Duchene, received a Chipotle gift card. Shown here are all the students who participated at least one day of the challenges.
