The Magic & Power of Your Inner Child

Did you know you have a precious little child inside?

One who is overflowing with whimsy, wonder, magic, creativity, helpfulness and a huge tender heart that wants to love and be loved? One who has also experienced heartbreak, confusion, fears, pain and loneliness, all of which can hold us back and cover up our True Essence.

When we are little and experience pain or loss, it can be overwhelming to

our nervous system, and too much for us to process. Parents and adults

often didn't know how to hold safe space for us to process what was going

on because of their own unhealed wounds. They may have attempted to gloss

over our pain, make it all better with a bandaid or a treat, or maybe they weren't tuned in to see and feel what we were going through. In this, we learned to deny, ignore, gloss over, or bandaid our pain and heartache.

This leads to us making up stories about ourselves, others, and the world like; I am bad, worthless, stupid, a burden. People can't be trusted. The world is dangerous; I have to figure things out on my own. I don't belong, etc.

False beliefs and conclusions get deeply imbedded into our psyche

from unprocessed pain and misunderstandings in our childhood.

We end up forming a wall of defensiveness, judgment, intellect, ambition, image and clever masks to protect our tenderness and vulnerability. Then we attract people to confirm our stories, which are often limiting and untrue.

Ideally, the way through any pain and loss is to face and feel it.

Part of our job as adults is to find our inner child, to see them, listen to them, honor them as they are, and acknowledge the pain they experienced growing up. In doing this, we reaffirm the truth of who we are and validate the experiences we have gone through. This then releases our little one from the prison of false narratives they developed. With time and attentiveness, this healing work brings us into the freedom and fullness of living in and as our True Loving Essence.

It takes willingness, gentleness and caring to authentically connect with our inner child. Sometimes they are angry and closed when we first approach them, especially if there has been decades of forgetting about them. But when you are patient and consistent enough, I promise they will come

out to play, and your Inner Goodness will come shining through again.

With the intimacy and integration of your inner child,

You will return to Being a Light in the world.

The Light you were meant to be

The Light you always are.

And we will all be Blessed.

In Joy,

Teri Jo

I’m not so sure that the adult within me teaches the child within me.

Rather, I think that the child does most of the educating.

There are scared children still left inside us, existing beneath our skin, that deserve to be held, to be given something soft to hold onto.

YOUTUBE: How to Connect to your Inner Child (7 minutes)

Most of us have an inner parent that doesn’t take care of the inner child’s needs properly. They are more focused on the needs of the ego, such as pleasing other people in order to feel needed, or achieving success and getting recognition from others. This makes the inner parent happy for a short period of time, but it doesn’t last. There is always a feeling of not being fulfilled, no matter how much you achieve, because the inner child’s needs are not being met.

I think that one of the greatest achievements in becoming an adult is to carefully cultivate the child within us so that the adult that we are becoming

Inspirational SOUL of the Month

My Inspirational Soul of the month is children everywhere of all ages!

This includes YOUR INNER CHILD, Hooray!

I have always loved children.

They are my happy place.

They are wondrous, creative, open, safe, honest and real.

I trust them, and often seek them out for guidance and wisdom.

Part of my deep adoration for children is their openness and honesty.

They have not yet built up walls of defensiveness and anger, harsh judgment

and separation, pretentiousness and hidden agendas.

They are true to themselves and their beautiful hearts.

They are natural givers and enthusiastic helpers.

I witnessed this everyday in my Kindergarten classrooms,

as a nanny and anytime I am lucky enough to be in the presence of kids.

Children wear their hearts on their sleeve, something I do as well, I think because I've spent so much time hanging out in their authenticity and preciousness.

Growing up in the USA, I had never heard of Children's Day.

This holiday is celebrated in Mexico April 30th, and in other countries too.

One of the reasons Mexico feels like home to me is

because of their Love and Reverence for children.

I believe that there is a sacred child-like spirit in all of us (often referred to as our younger self or sacred inner child), one we can access and heal in recovery.

We can gradually learn to integrate our youthful spirit into our everyday life.

There is sweet sacredness when a person truly dedicates himself or herself

to reclaiming his or her forgotten and abandoned inner child.

There is child in all of us that refuses to grow up, a child that is in awe of what can be, the polar opposite of the cynic in all of us who despairs over what is. Stories of magic, fantastic monsters, impossible courage and spectacular heroism appeal to this child, instilling it with hope and faith in

humanity and in the cosmic order.
