Ghost Crocco

Ghost Crocco has been selected as a recipient of the Town of Millinocket Scholarship in recognition of their exceptional dedication to community service and meaningful contributions to the youth and residents of Millinocket. Ghost has volunteered countless hours helping with community events in Millinocket. Whether at parades, movie nights, or back-to-school events, Ghost has demonstrated a commitment to continued community service, showing up time and time again to lend a hand wherever needed. They have expressed a dedication to service that will certainly continue long after graduation. Ghost has also volunteered time at the Millinocket Memorial Library. They are someone repeatedly described as bringing a strong sense of steadiness and reliability to everything they do. During their time volunteering at the library, they consistently modeled integrity, kindness, and dependability to their peers. In addition to their time volunteering with the Town and the library, Ghost served as a student leader at vacation camp several times, where they consistently demonstrated maturity, empathy, and responsibility. They were a great role model for the younger students, becoming someone who was looked up to and trusted. Ghost has demonstrated unwavering dedication to the Town of Millinocket and emerged as a positive role model and mentor for younger students and peers alike. Congratulations Ghost!

Sunday Voraraj

Sunday Voraraj has been selected as a recipient of the Town of Millinocket Scholarship in recognition of his exceptional dedication to community service and his meaningful contributions to the youth and residents of Millinocket. Sunday volunteered with the Baxter Youth Conservation Corps, dedicating many hours of work in a rugged environment to maintain and protect the lands that define this region. His work with the Baxter YCC shows a strong character of perseverance, adaptability, and collaboration. Sunday has shown exemplary leadership skills and was selected to participate in the national FourStar Leadership Program. During this program he was challenged and encouraged to grow as a leader through the four key principles of Character, Common Vision, Communication, and Caring. He brought those valuable lessons home to Millinocket and has served as president of the National Honor Society and Student Council and as captain of the varsity soccer and tennis teams. In addition to his volunteer service and leadership, Sunday has shown a commitment to rural healthcare through his participation in Medical Assisting training with NPT Region III. His experience through this rigorous training program has inspired him to pursue a future in the medical field working in rural communities like Millinocket. Sunday has demonstrated unwavering dedication to the Town of Millinocket and emerged as a positive role model and leader within the community. Congratulations Sunday!

Boat Registration Stickers are available at the Town Office.

ATV Registration Stickers are not available at the Town Office yet; Online Registrations are available to residents until stickers are received. Current ATV registrations will remain valid until June 30, 2026.

Reminder that Delinquent tax payments were due as of March 13, 2026. Any balance owed is accruing interest and may be subject to lien. Contact the Tax Collector at 723-7000 to inquire about if you have a balance.

Public Works Department

The Public Works crew has been busy tackling spring's challenges and keeping our town running smoothly. Here's what we've been up to:

Safety & Training:

• The public works crew attended the annual Highway Congress in Skowhegan which included trainings on traffic safety, trenching safety, machine operation among other department related activities.

Around Town:

• Concluded the annual spring sweeping.
• Repaired a sewer basin on Hillcrest Ave.
• Removed and disposed of an abandoned camper trailer on South St.
• Prepped sewer and storm basin covers for paving on Hillcrest and Highland Ave.
• Refinished and installed three benches on the Michaud Walking Trail in conjunction with the Age Friendly Committee.
• Assisted the Clerk’s office with primary voting set up and clean up
• Begun annual street painting.
• B and B Paving completed sidewalk reconstruction on Katahdin Ave as well as paving Highland Ave, Hillcrest and Highland Ave Sidewalk.
• Begun loaming and grass seeding in areas disturbed by paving on Katahdin Ave and Highland Ave.
• Brushed out an access point to a storm drain system on Wassau St.

Transfer Station News:

• The scrap metal pile has been hauled away by Grimmel Industries. A total of 108 tons of metal was hauled away in 6 truck loads.
• Freon has been evacuated for recycling of the white good units.
• Effective immediately, furniture, mattresses and demolition debris cannot go in the hopper. Please see the attendant for disposal directions.
• Important Disposal Reminder: Any refrigerator or freezer brought to the transfer station must be completely empty, and all grates, trays, or compartments must be removed before disposal.
• Contractor Request: The contractor who grinds the brush has asked that nothing longer than 8 feet be brought to our brush pile, as longer items can clog the grinder.
• As always, we are eagerly accepting all your cardboard, plastic jugs, and tin cans for recycling. Every bit helps us keep waste out of the landfill!

Cemetery Update:

• The Public Works crew uprighted multiple stones that had fallen over in the Millinocket Cemetery.
• Burials are underway for the season as well as routine grounds maintenance. Please note that in an attempt to build healthier sods and thicker grass, we are mowing at a taller height. This may result in longer than normal conditions while we improve the overall health of the grass. Thank you for your understanding.
• With the large number of obstacles to maintain around, we ask that discretion is used when placing items on gravesites. No loose rocks or marbles are allowed and will be removed immediately. Other small items that pose a danger for lawn maintenance will also be removed. No items may have wires or ropes securing them to the ground.

School Department

We wish we could include all the amazing things going on in our schools during the months of May and June, but here are just a few...

Highlights:

Jim Michaud, Carl Cousins, and Mike Murphy from the Millinocket Area Masons once again presented a new bicycle and helmet to a boy and girl in each grade at Granite Street. Their Bikes for Books program encourages students to read and earn tickets for a random drawing for a new bicycle. Congratulations to the students who won and great job reading!

Stearns students enjoyed the bows and arrows purchased with a $1,000 grant from the Courageous Steps Program.

Stearns Junior High student, Aria Morrow, won the Maine Water Environment Association Clean Water poster contest for grades 7 & 8. She was presented with a $100 check. Congratulations Aria!

The Elks provided ice cream for both schools to celebrate the end of the school year. Our students are always thankful and excited to receive this treat. Thank you for your generosity!

Our SunMeals (summer food program) began operations on June 22nd. It provides meals for students in the Katahdin region over the summer. Be on the lookout for more information or call the Food Services Department.

Our 4th graders have been working on a unit about Maine as part of their social studies classes. They visited the Patten Lumberman's Museum, put flags out on the cemetery for our veterans, and had Kevin Kelsey from the Salmon Farm as a guest speaker.

Ms. Tara McNulty's 8th grade students wrapped up their Holocaust unit that included reading the play The Diary of Anne Frank. As part of the unit, students had the opportunity to compare the ending of the play (the last entry of Anne Frank's diary) and a video from the Holocaust Museum about what happened to Anne Frank after the arrest.

Staff Appreciation:

A special thank you to Mrs. Katie DiFrederico for the awesome monthly assemblies at Granite Street. She, along with other staff, made those days fun and enjoyable for our students.
