If you experience:

• Slow-running drains
• Sewer backups in your basement



Call the Public Works Department first at 207.723.7030 to determine if the issue is with the Town's infrastructure. This can save you time and money on unnecessary plumbing calls.

Code Enforcement

The Code Enforcement Department has been busy with various activities and projects. Here are some highlights from the past month:

• Attended a ZOOM meeting for discussion and tips on Food and Rural Food Law, as well as food sovereignty in Maine, and participated in a Q&A session on Home Food Licensing.
• Followed up on complaints received concerning items on properties around the community and conducted inspections for permits that have been issued.
• Continued to work with Suite Pad on accessible housing projects and monitored progress on renovations at MRH, which are ahead of schedule.
• Received and processed requests for roof-mounted solar panel projects and issued permits for these initiatives.
• Worked with numerous committees and events throughout the community and assisted with various projects and inquiries.
• Followed up on projects that are ongoing without permits and addressed questions and concerns about sub-division lots on Medway Road.
• Updated permit and license forms to reflect the new Cannabis Ordinance, which takes effect on October 24, 2025.
• Participated in webinars on fire safety and lithium-battery safety, and assisted citizens with various needs, including connecting a resident with hearing impairments to resources for smoke alarms.

Fire/EMS Department

The Millinocket Fire/EMS department has been busy with various activities and training exercises. Here are some highlights:

Chief's Activities

• Chief Cote successfully completed the Fire Officer 3 Academy at EMCC, earning Pro Board Certification.
• Chief Cote attended several meetings, including the Penobscot County Fire Chiefs Meeting, Maine Fire Service Institute Instructor Meeting, and the Katahdin Region TIMS Meeting.
• Chief Cote is serving on the Emergency Vehicle Drivers Training Committee for Maine Fire Service Institute and is working on coordinating a Basic Fire School for the Winter.
• Chief Cote has applied for grants through the Maine Forest Service Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant and the Leary Firefighters Foundation Grant.

Department Activities

• Full-time crews have been installing CO/Smoke Alarms and conducting Home Safety Surveys, and Chief Cote has been assisting with Chimney and wood stove/pellet stove inspections.
• The department participated in Fire Prevention programs, including fire station tours for the Pre-K Class.
• New extrication tools have been placed in service, and Unit 780 (Chief's Truck) has been serviced and inspected.
• Staff will be completing Low Angle Rescue Training in early November, and a Hazmat Operations Refresher Class has been rescheduled to a later date in November.

Community Outreach

• The Department continues to distribute File of Life Cards and Naloxone to residents.
• The department is offering CO/Smoke Alarm installations and home safety surveys to residents of Millinocket.

Personnel Updates

• Noah Bachner, Firefighter/Advanced EMT, has started his two-week orientation and will be placed on a regular shift rotation soon.
• Two full-time staff members are currently out on medical leave, and one full-time opening remains open.

Other News

• Millinocket Regional Hospital provided a Flu Shot Clinic for all department staff.
• Chief Cote is working to get the department ready for a SHAPE Inspection with Maine Safety Works and is updating standard operating guidelines, written plans, and preplans.
