Public Works
· Mowing completed moved to fall leaf pickup.
· Refurbish bodies and sander units on the two 2006 Sterling Plow Trucks 95% completed.
· Winter salt/sand is completed mixed and put into storage barn.
· Completed catch basin cleaning.
· Rebuilt sewer top on prospect street.
· Shoulder work completed on Connecticut Avenue. Paving completed.
Transfer Station:
· Started recycling back up, building collection.
Cemetery:
· Public Works has taken over burials for the end of the season.

Waste Water Treatment Facility

The Town of Millinocket would like to remind the property owners/residents to not flush non-flushable items into the sewer system. Including, but not limited to: Baby Wipes, Flushable Wipes, Cleaning Wipes, Feminine Hygiene Products, Paper Towels, Tissues/Q-tips, Grease, Plastics, Mop Heads, or trash of any kind.

Municipal employees continue to find very large amounts of non-flushable items causing extreme plugs to the sewer system resulting in costly maintenance to our pumping stations. If this issue continues, this may result in an increase of your sewer rates. Thank you for this consideration.

East Millinocket Police Department
- October was a very busy month with officers responding to over 800 calls for service.
- Our officers were able to engage in multiple community events surrounding Halloween and we always enjoy the time spent with community members and our area children.
- We are now gearing up for the winter season, holidays and most importantly planning for the Millinocket Marathon as the event brings a large increase of traffic, events and people to our community. We want to remind citizens that studded winter tires are now legal to be put back on vehicles and if they haven't done so already now is the time to get tires swapped over as we are starting to see winter weather on our roadways.
- Also, as winter weather begins to arrive we want to remind everyone to allow themselves extra time when traveling, slow down and if travel is not necessary stay off roadways during inclement weather.

Millinocket Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services

Updates from Chief Thomas Malcolm:
- The department has been working hard to conducted Fire Drills in the schools.
- This month, I've attended the Maine Ambulance Association meeting on ambulance cost reimbursement and legislation that they are trying to bring forward for assistance.
- The department has been putting together sand buckets for our Sand Bucket Program which will start first week of December.
- New Assistant Chief is scheduled to start on 11/28 -
- We have been collaborating with Red Cross to become part of their Home Fire Campaign (HFC)! This will hopefully give us the opportunity to assist families with free smoke alarms in Millinocket.

The mission of the Millinocket Fire/Rescue Department is to protect lives, the environment, and property by providing prompt, skillful, and cost-effective fire protection and life safety services. The Town is committed to providing this valuable service.
Millinocket Fire/Rescue is responsible for the 4,500 citizens who live here year-round, the additional 6,000 citizens who live here seasonally and the estimated 100,000 tourists who visit our community each year. Our fire department not only serves the town of Millinocket, but they also cover Rt. 11 until Jo Mary Lake, the Golden Road until Rip Dam, Millinocket Lake Rd. to Baxter State Park, including any emergencies that may happen in Baxter State Park.

Millinocket Ski Tow
This fall, Millinocket Public Works cleaned up the first two lanes of the Millinocket Ski Tow site! They cut away any brush hanging over the trail, moved rocks, and cut back long branches from the trees.
This winter season we hope all community members enjoy having a safer and wider space to bring their families sledding and skiing.
This winter the Community Initiatives Director, Amber Wheaton, will be pursuing funding from various sources to hopefully bring the dream of having a new rope tow a reality.

Granite Street Elementary 4th Grade Friends Came to Town Hall!
On November 7th, 2022 the fourth grade had fun learning about the town office and all the people who work there! Community Initiatives Director, Amber Wheaton, introduced the class to the Town Manager Peter Jamieson, the Human Resource Director Lori Santerre, and the Town Clerks Amber Carney and Roxanne Johnson. The children were also taken in the court house, the police station and had an opportunity to check out a fire truck! All municipal employees were very excited to share what it is they do each day.
Granite Street fourth graders please come back to see us anytime! Their questions were well thought out, challenging and overall so fun. The Town of Millinocket is hopeful for the community's future after meeting the fourth grade class of 2023!

USDA Rural Development Announces a $5 Million Grant Award for Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness! | |

November 17th, 2022: Town Manager Peter Jamieson, CID Amber Wheaton and Councilor Louie Pelletier all represented the Town of Millinocket at the Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness celebration of their award of $5 million. It was a great honor being there and showing our support for their work. The Town is excited to see what more the Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness team accomplishes and are grateful to have them in the community.

"We are delighted to announce we have begun the collaborative development of a sustainable Forest Products Campus (FPC) and transportation corridor connecting the One North industrial site in Millinocket to Searsport, Maine. The FPC will be anchored by a wood-pellet facility and supported by upgraded and expanded rail infrastructure that will link production facilities to the international deep-water port in Searsport. The railway improvement project, led by the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) and NBM Railway, is scheduled to begin design and permitting in 2023, with construction anticipated to begin in 2024.
“The One North Forest Products Campus and rail corridor will send Maine-manufactured wood pellets across the globe, creating good-paying jobs in Millinocket, bolstering the forest products supply chain across rural Maine, and further positioning Maine’s forest products industry as a leader in meeting the world’s growing need for clean and sustainable energy sources,” said Governor Janet Mills.
The One North FPC pellet mill and associated timber-related industrial development will process biomass from the North Maine Woods as well as forestry residuals from existing industries across the state, providing a market for regional land owner thinnings, low-grade timber, and residuals. The FPC will provide an opportunity for additional value-added forest product manufacturers to co-locate on the campus.
Highland Carbon Solutions (HCS) of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, has agreed to the collaborative development of an industrial-scale wood pellet production facility at the One North campus."
