Radical Joy Revealed is a weekly message of inspiration about finding and making beauty in wounded places. We hope you'll enjoy these doorways into places that are both familiar and surprising, and we welcome your suggestions, stories, and photos. Click here to subscribe.

For the past few weeks, as the long days of summer begin fading toward twilight, Joe Thompson of Vestal, New York gets in his car and drives to a nearby supermarket.
He's not there to buy groceries, however; he's there to witness. The supermarket is on a hill, and Joe parks his car so he's facing west. Then, he sits there, gazing into the distance as he watches the sun set.
Every day it's different. Every day the closing of the day is spectacular in its own particular way. Joe Thompson sets aside time to be present for it... and to marvel.
How often do we note something beautiful or marvelous, and then just pass it by? And how much does it even occur to us to go out of our way to see a kind of beauty that we can, in one sense, rely on (the sun, after all, will set) but which will surely surprise us with each manifestation?
May we all be more like Joe Thompson and make time and space to relish beauty.
