AND NOW THE REAL NEW REAL NEWS FROM SLIM'S SHADY TRAILER PARK

Slim People,

Want to hear a heartwarming Halloween story about pig wrestling and Keith Richards?

Gather 'round the campfire, Slim Boys and Girls...

Chase (Huna, Sax Man) and I boarded a plane from sunny Palm Springs (CA!) to wintry Wisconsin for a Big Gig in Antigo.

Antigo.

Pronounced Aunty GO! Like someone shouting at an inebriated relative who won't leave the cookout.

Antigo also happens to be the birthplace of Cheesehead Shorty.

Who?

Cheesehead Shorty. She's a friend of mine. Shorty's a powerhouse--a very successful businesswoman, Green Bay Packers superfan and for the past few years has been organizing annual benefit concerts in her hometown.

I've done about eight. Chase joined me for the past two. And this year Shorty wanted to shake things up. Add a little spice. Give it a fresh coat of Midwestern magic!

She decided to do it on Halloween. That's right, Halloween. Costumes recommended!

When we arrived in Antigo, it was 29 degrees. Brisk. Refreshing. But a tad chilly on the willy!

The morning of the Big Show, Chase and I headed to 106.1 All Hit Country for a LIVE interview to pump up the Halloween Hoedown. It was a benefit for United Way, and we wanted to raise as much dough as humanly possible.

The DJ, Scott, had the mics all set up and ready to roll. We walked in, and hanging on the wall was a black tank top with shorts attached. Printed on the front in white letters:

The Mangler.

Who is The Mangler? And why are his shorts pinned to the wall? I had questions.

But I wasn't prepared for DJ Scott's answer...

The Mangler is a pig wrestler. A pig wrestler, Slim People.

Apparently, this involves a human, voluntarily jumping into a mud pit to wrangle a giant pig and place it in a barrel.

But hey — I’m not judging! If rolling around in the mud with a huge hog brings you joy, go for it.  Just don’t expect me to referee!

Scott conducted a great interview. He did his homework! Scott talked about Chase's European tour. He chatted up the Slim cookbooks.

And of course, Scott knew all about The Mangler.

Maybe I should lengthen my name to...Slim Mangler. Take up pig wrestling. Get my shorts pinned to the wall!

After the interview, Shorty took us on a tour of her husband's family business--a full-blown bait empire. That's right.

It's a thriving enterprise with warehouses and a fleet of trucks that furnish fishermen--I mean fisherpeople--all over the tristate area with bait.

I must admit, I've never given much thought to bait. But apparently lots of people have! There were tanks and tanks full of minnows.

And then there were the Canadian Crawlers.

Canadian Crawlers are not an ice hockey team, a biker gang, or a pig wrestling league. They're worms. Big worms from Canada. Oh, Canada!

And apparently these Canadian Crawlers are the Beyoncé of the bait world.

And Shorty's hubby's family bait biz has all that and more. It's off the hook!

After the bait excursion, it was time to prep for the Big Halloween Gig at Northstar, a big, beautiful banquet hall. What was my costume?

I dressed up as Slim Man. I put on a pair of tinted glasses with bushy eyebrows and a big rubber nose attached!

Chase went as 1970s Elvis getting ready to karate kick his way onto the stage at The Sands

We opened with Rat Pack classics--Sinatra, Dean Martin--and then swung into some Slim Man songs. Chase played his new single, "Soulshine" which is screaming up the charts.

And then Hip Pocket came on. They're a nine-piece funky horn band that plays songs from Steely Dan and Chicago with horn charts so complicated they require a PhD to decipher.

Hip Pocket is impressive! And every single member was in costume.

The singer, Joe Fittante, came dressed as Keith Richards. A little makeup, some eyeliner, a scarf — and boom, you’re Keith.

Not a difficult costume, considering Keith himself sometimes looks like he's wearing a Keith Richards costume.

Most of the folks in the audience were in Halloween outfits. Including Shorty.

Joe and Shorty

She was dressed in a modified potato sack--a tribute to her family’s business. Her dad started making burlap sacks for taters in a small general store in Antigo. Over the years the bag biz has grown into a global sack dynasty for all kinds of produce.

Towards the end of the show, Hip Pocket invited Chase and me back up.  I asked the band--over the mic--if they knew any Rolling Stones.

Before anyone could answer, I started singing "Honky Tonk Women." And the band jumped in and sounded Slimsational! Chase took a solo that was scintillating. The joint was jumpin'!

A woman who looked exactly like Bea Arthur strutted across the dance floor. She was moving and groovin'! When she got close to the stage, I realized...it was a man in drag.

It made me a little homesick for Palm Springs!

The Halloween Blowout was an absolute blast. Shorty and the whole crew did an incredible job packing the place!

Thanks to all who came out to the show. We raised a lot of do-re-mi for United Way. How much?

Since we started, more than $700,000! NFK.

Not Effing Kidding!

When I got back to Slim's Shady Trailer Park, I started reminiscing about the Antigo expedition. I got inspired to write a new song.

Do you remember "The Gambler" by Kenny Rogers?

I'm writing a Slim Man version. I'm calling it...

"The Mangler."

You've got to know when to hold 'em

Know when to roll 'em

Know when to grab the pig

When to let 'em go...

It's gonna be my new single!

Keep smiling, Slim People. While you still have teeth!

It's all about love.

Who loves ya?

Uncle Slimmy
