River Hawks Scholars Academy Students-of-the-Month
Congratulations to Manning School of Business students Dorys Rosa (Accounting), Jonathan Vixamar (Finance), Luis Maldonado Rezendes (Management Information Systems), and Jessica Tran (Entrepreneurship) who were each selected as River Hawk Scholars Academy (RHSA) Students of the Month in 2021! RHSA Students of the Month are nominated by their faculty, staff and fellow students for exemplifying what it means to be part of the RHSA, which promotes academic success and fosters active campus engagement for full-time, first-year UMass Lowell students who identify as first-generation college students.
Dorys Rosa (recognized in December) was nominated by her RHSA Peer Leader Heer Patel, who said, “Dorys is one of the strongest students I have talked to thus far," and commended Dorys for her ability to balance her academic responsibilities with personal and social commitments.
Jonathan Vixamar (November) is a member of UMass Lowell's Division I track and field team, and said he is thankful for the relationships he has built within the RHSA program, with both students and faculty of all age groups and backgrounds. He says he has found a great sense of community at UMass Lowell, and hopes to one day use his education to help the homeless.
Luis Maldonado Rezendes (March) is a self-proclaimed social butterfly, so remote learning was tough last spring, but he still managed to connect with his professors and he feels like faculty and staff genuinely care about his success. He enjoys hanging out with his friends and said RSHA means "getting extra guidance and being in a community with people from similar backgrounds."
Jessica Tran (March) became a RSHA Peer Advisor this fall. She hopes to run her own fashion or beauty business, and also looks forward to travelling the world someday. On being a RHSA Peer Leader, Jessica says "college can be a life-changing experience for some, and I want to be able to play a role in helping others reach their goals. For me, the RHSA team has been helpful to me in numerous ways, so I would like to give back to my peers and be a support system for them when they need me."

Dr. Ravi Jain Named Coordinator for Master of Science in Finance Program

The Finance Department is pleased to announce that Ravi Jain will serve as the next Master of Science in Finance (MSF) Program Coordinator.
The program was launched seven years ago under the leadership of Chan-Wung Kim. Finance Department Chair Steven Freund said, "the Master of Science in Finance program has experienced steady growth under Dr. Kim's stewardship. I especially want to mention Dr. Kim’s work designing and teaching the review course for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Exam. He also intends to involve industry participants and develop partnerships that will give students more real-world exposure.
