God Our Refuge
Psalm 46:4-5
Life is often a series of storms, and at times we can feel like we are being tossed around with no bearing of getting safely home. Our text this week is a reminder to not be overcome with fear, not to let the worry overtake us because God is our refuge, because God is our constant help in trouble.
For many of us when we look around at the world all we see is chaos, and it produces anxiety. We feel uneasy, worried and lost. We have forgotten the works of God that stand as a reminder, a reminder of his love, a reminder of His judgement a reminder of His power.
This week bring your anxiety, bring your fear, bring your worry and be reminded of the awesome might power of God that stands in the midst of the storm and commands it to be still.

Serve Week Recap

This week has reminded me that small acts of kindness can have everlasting impact. Through the many different service opportunities this week the love of God was shown to an Elementary school community, our neighbors on circle drive, the volunteers at Inspired Hearts and Hands, our neighbors at Shop and Save and the community around us as we hosted a car wash for Paws across Pittsburgh.
The goal this week wasn’t just to get the work done. The goal was to serve people with no strings attached. Showing our neighbors that we are a community of Jesus followers who love the people around us and do the work to support them.
This was beautifully accomplished in many different ways.

- The Principal of Richland Elementary was astonished at how much we were able to accomplish at their Nature Trail. She was over joyed that teachers will be able to take kids down there for learning in nature. However even more than that she was able to see Christian’s who love their community serving.

- Our neighbors around circle drive experienced the love of God as we walked the circle and offered to help with yard work. We met a number of amazing people and were able to help a man named Dale who needed some things done around the outside of his home. Dale offered to pray for our group after and his gratitude to God was clearly evident.

- As we packed clothes up to be distributed through Inspired Hearts and Hands it was a joy to be alongside so many who wanted to help the least of these. While we were never going to see their faces our work encourages and enables Mindy and Callie, the ministry leaders, to keep pressing on in serving people.

- We saw how generosity is contagious as we ask people to donate food for Inspired Hearts and Hands. It’s amazing how we can be generous with our time and energy and see how people were generous with their donations. Multiple times people handed us $20 to go inside and get food, others filled shopping carts with groceries for us to pack in boxes. It was a beautiful image of the kingdom as we worked to help those struggling to get through the week.

- The car wash was our last place of service and like last year the goal was to come alongside a group in our community that our neighbors love and support them too. It is a beautiful thing when those who do not know Jesus interact with those that love him and are actively serving others. A clear demonstration that to be a Jesus follower means we love and serve others. That we care about what others care about and we do it all for His glory.
| Church, I am so proud of your work, this past week not because of the tasks completed but because of the heart you had while completing them. What a joy it is to see brothers and sisters working together in the Lord. Jane Stuart is one of several St. Barnabas Village residents who use our Sunday shuttle service, provided by Access. Each week, Linda Smith, our Office Assistant, arranges ride reservations.
Recently, Jane suggested creating a flyer about the shuttle service for the Village mailroom. In doing so, she is living by her favorite motto: Use it or lose it! We are grateful that Jane is using her mind and heart to help connect her neighbors with FPCB.
Shannon Devlin, our Communications Director, designed the mailroom flyer and also created half-sheet invitation flyers for the information rack in the Bell Tower Entryway. These are available for anyone to share as a simple invitation to worship. Click here to see a sample.

| New Disciple-Making Partner Requests School Supplies for Aug 1! | | Throughout the month of July, we are collecting school supplies to benefit the families at Bethany Christian Services. Donations are for Adoptive and Foster families who will come to a picnic we are hosting here at FPCB on August 1st. Kids will have a chance to choose a backpack and to fill it with all the items they need for the school year. Please bring your donations to the sanctuary and set them in the collection box at the entryway. | | |
