Echoes of Sunday
A Midweek Devotional Reading Based on Last Sunday’s Sermon
| |
Ever watched a loved one drive away and felt that sudden, sinking realization that you can’t protect them everywhere they go? In a world full of unpredictable transitions and vanishing control, it’s easy to let anxiety take the wheel. But Psalm 121 offers a far better anchor than our own fragile grip.
In his latest devotional, Held for Every Step, Pastor Paul Becker explores what it means to rest in a Savior who never slumbers, never steps back, and holds every departure and arrival of your life in His hands. If you’re carrying the heavy weight of trying to keep it all together today, take two minutes to read this encouraging reflection—and discover the peace of stepping into your day knowing you never walk it alone.

From Darkest Night to Brightest Morning
Psalm 30
Have you ever found yourself in the middle of a dark night—a season of grief, anxiety, or waiting—where it felt like the sun would never come back up? It is easy to let the shadows trick us into believing that our current pain is the end of our story.
This Sunday, we are diving into Psalm 30 to discover a life-changing truth: while the dark nights of life are very real, they are never permanent. When King David wrote, “Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning,” he was looking back from the sunlight of God’s rescue to remind us that God is actively working even when we cannot see it.
Join us this Sunday as we trace how Christ ultimately fulfills this promise through His resurrection, conquering our deepest darkness and guaranteeing that every night has an expiration date. No matter what burden or shadow you are walking through this week, come gather with us to find renewed hope, strength, and the true joy that awaits us in the morning.
Join us for worship this Sunday at 10 AM. If you are homebound or traveling, you can watch our 10 AM Sunday Livestream by clicking here.
| | Faith, Freedom, and America’s 250th Anniversary: Part 2 | | |
If you are joining us for the first time, welcome! As our nation approaches its 250th anniversary, we are taking a few months to explore the deep streams of colonial history and see how our Presbyterian faith and church heritage helped shape the birth of America—and what that means for us as Christians today.
In our second article, we turn our attention to the 12 Presbyterians who signed the Declaration of Independence in the summer of 1776. While only one was a minister, the other eleven were everyday church members—doctors, lawyers, farmers, and elders who put their lives, reputations, and faith on the line. Their courageous and deeply flawed stories remind us that our faith isn't meant to stay inside church walls on Sunday morning, but is called to be lived out with courage, service, and integrity in our everyday lives.

Our sympathy is extended to the family of Bonnie and Ike Readie upon Ike's death on Wednesday, August 5.
The viewing will occur at Schellhaas Funeral Home on Friday the 14th from 4-7pm
The service will take place in our sanctuary on Saturday the 15th at 10:30am.
View his obituary here.
Ike was mostly homebound due to mobility issues. He was received into membership when elders made a home visit to hear his profession of faith and answer the church membership questions. At one point, Ike's mobility improved enough for him to attend Pastor Paul's Tuesday Bible Study.

Safe Harbor Update
By: Pastor Jeremy Collins
| | |
We had a great time at Community Day getting the word out about the Safe Harbor support group for foster and adoptive families. Conversation after conversation we connected with people who were either fostering themselves or knew someone they could pass the information along to. It was extremely encouraging to hear the support and affirmation of people in our community thanking us for doing this type of ministry.
| |
Please continue to pray for our Safe Harbor volunteers as we prepare for our monthly gatherings that start in September. Pray specifically that God would work in the hearts of the people we have met and that we would model the selfless love of Jesus to them.

Disciple-Making Partner Updates
The Lighthouse Foundation
| Helpers Needed for Donation Days! | |
We received this information from the Lighthouse:
"As we quickly approach the holiday season, we are working to stay ahead of the increased demand that comes with this busy time of year. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we receive more and more donations each holiday season. While this is a wonderful blessing, it also means we need additional help receiving and processing those donations.
From Thursday, October 8 through Friday, November 20, we are seeking volunteers to assist with accepting and unloading donations each week on:
- Thursdays from 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM
- Fridays from10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Ideally, volunteers should be able to lift moderately heavy items, enjoy interacting with people, and help create a warm, welcoming experience for our donors. Since these individuals are generously supporting our mission, a cheerful attitude and a spirit of gratitude are essential.
Because these are open donation drop-off times, donation volume can vary greatly from day to day. Some shifts may be quite busy, while others may be slower. Volunteers should be comfortable with occasional downtime and able to spend time at the pantry waiting for donations to arrive (a great opportunity to bring a friend and catch up with one another!).
Your assistance during this busy season helps ensure that every donation is received with appreciation and put to good use serving our community.
If you are interested, please sign up through our website or the link here. If you have questions, please reach out. We would greatly appreciate your help as we prepare for the busy holiday season!"

The John Carroll University medical brigade visited several homes where water filters were distributed. They asked each family for their feedback on our filters. Nely, who received her filter in January 2023, shared that her kids used to get sick from contaminated water. Since getting the filter, her children rarely have stomach issues or diarrhea. Her family is also saving money because they no longer need to buy clean drinking water. Nely also thought our follow-up visits are helpful to ensure her filter is working correctly.

HHM team member Gunther met with local teens to teach the importance of service to others. Also, the Hope Mothers meet weekly to discuss practical topics, such as practicing patience, which is a fruit of the Spirit in the lives of Jesus' followers!
