“Our life is March weather, savage and serene in one hour.”~ Ralph Waldo Emerson.
We have already had a few teasers with temperatures in the 50s, with quick dips down into the 20s. But, do not fret friends, spring is on its way. And with the warmer temperatures, Concord will be getting some improvements this month and into the summer.
The Lake County Engineers Office will resurface Prouty Road in its entirety this construction season. We all know Prouty Road needs improvement and we appreciate the attention county maintained roads in Concord have received in recent years. This will be a significant project and we appreciate your patience and caution during this construction. Please watch for construction notices and information about traffic interruptions from the Engineers Office, which Concord Township will share on ConcordTwp.com and through social media.
In addition, Concord Township will be resurfacing the following roads during this construction season:
- Brooklyn Way
- Jamie Dr.
- Kenneth Dr.
- Gray Rd.
- Huntoon Rd.
- Rodgers Rd.
The Concord Twp. Service Dept. currently maintains 139 lane miles of Township roadways. Summer maintenance includes full depth concrete slab replacement, full depth asphalt replacement, Durapatching, crack sealing, roadside drainage improvement, roadside mowing and assisting other Township departments as needed.
Businesses are continuing to invest in our amazing community. UH/Lake Health recently announced a $1.8 million investment into Tri-Point Hospital to upgrade their birthing unit. The birthing center will be completely renovated and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) will be added. “These important modernizations and upgrades are a result of the UH acquisition, and build upon UH’s agreement to bring investments that will benefit the community, including enhancements to facilities, equipment and services,” said Robyn Strosaker, MD, FAAP, President and Chief Operating Officer of UH Lake Health Medical Centers. “We also look forward to providing leading-edge technology, innovative practices, strong clinical research and other initiatives that will help us continue to complement and grow our hospitals.”
“The Trustees appreciate UH’s continued investment in our community and we look forward to upgraded facilities, equipment and services that will benefit our residents and our community,” said Morgan McIntosh, Trustee.
We hope you have a wonderful March! For each petal on the shamrock, this brings a wish your way: Good health, good luck, and happiness for today and every day. Have a Happy St. Paddy’s Day, Concord!

Early fire hoses were made of leather sections stitched together. As the leather hose became saturated, it became heavy and leaked at the seams. Woven linen hose gradually replaced leather fire hose by the end of the 19th century. The cotton hose had to be hung to completely dry to prevent rot and fire towers were constructed as a place to hang hose. Nowadays, fire towers may serve multiple purposes. The new Station #1 training tower is nearing completion inside and out. Along with care of our hose, we are excited for the range of training opportunities the tower will provide, such as advancing hose lines in stairwells, basement fires, confined space rescue, victim removal, ladder operations and rope rescue.
We look forward to welcoming the community into the new station this year as we celebrate our 75th anniversary as a fire department. Stay tuned for details of our grand opening celebration.

Work Session March 7th
Due to an increased interest from Concord residents to raise chickens on their property, the Township is looking at updating the zoning regulations that would allow residential property owners with a lot that is less than 1 acre in size to raise chickens on their property for personal use. The Zoning Commission will be holding a work session at their next meeting, Tuesday March 7, 2023, to discuss their findings and craft a first draft of the legislation. Some questions that need to be addressed include: How many chickens will be allowed? Are roosters allowed? Will a permit be required? Will there be coop restrictions? Should you wish to share your thoughts on this idea, please consider attending the meeting on March 7th at 7pm or submit your written comments to Heather Freeman, Planning & Zoning Director at hfreeman@concordtwp.com.
