THE MARIAN DAILY

TUESDAY, AUGUST 30, 2022

Wednesday is a Day 3.

NEW TODAY & IMPORTANT REMINDERS

SEPTEMBER 2 ADLD INFORMATION

Friday, September 2 is listed as an “Asynchronous Distance Learning Day” (ADLD). On an ADLD the building is closed and students work asynchronously from home on work assigned by their teachers. There is no specific login time for students, and no Zooming required – students can work throughout the day at their own pace. Assignments will be posted to Schoology no later than 8am Friday, and due dates will be indicated on each teacher’s page. Students should please check every class page and can expect an assignment in every class. Faculty and Staff will be participating in professional development during Friday’s ADLD, and so the building and offices will be closed. There are no club meetings, however all athletic practices and contests will proceed as scheduled. Thank you, and please feel welcome to direct any questions to your daughter’s specific teacher or counselor.

HOMEROOM DUES, DUE THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 1

The $25 for homeroom dues can be paid using check or cash and should be turned in to your student's homeroom teacher. Homeroom dues are collected each year to help cover the costs of Field Day, various class activities and charity projects, as well as gifts for guests, speakers and transfer students.

Each year, students and parents alike are required to acknowledge their understanding and support of the protocols, policies, and practices delineated in two of Marian's guiding documents, the 2022-2023 Student & Parent Handbook and the Marian Honor Code. This school year, each student and one parent should complete these acknowledgments electronically using Final Forms, this signature was already included in Final Forms available in July. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

STUDENT EMAILS (new last week)

Students should check their email at least twice daily. Communications to students will be made via your Marian email accounts. Failure to check your email is not a reason to miss important meetings and information.

TRAFFIC AND ON-TIME ARRIVAL (new last week)

This is a public service announcement to ensure you arrive at school on time. As you have already noticed, traffic is beginning to increase as more schools begin the year. Brother Rice started last week and gave a glimpse of the volume of traffic as it builds in the morning. Please anticipate even heavier traffic on Monday, August 29 as St. Regis and all of Birmingham Public Schools start back up. Road construction continues on 14 Mile which will force traffic on roadways that may have been less traveled. We ask you to please leave earlier to ensure an on-time arrival at Marian for your student(s).

FORENSICS (new last week)

Anyone who has not received an email regarding forensics but is still interested in participating in the Marian Forensics Team should reach out to Mr. Sharp at [email protected] by no later than Thursday, September 1. Membership dues and signed contracts are due on Tuesday, September 6 by the end of the school day.

GOODBYES AND WELCOMES (new last week)

We are sad to announce that we’ll be saying “goodbye” to Mrs. Erin Dawkins, Attendance Coordinator. Mrs. Dawkins has decided to leave Marian effective August 31 in order to focus on her family’s business. With Mrs. Dawkins’ departure we extend a warm welcome to Mary Tiseo ’96, who begins training this week and will take over in the Attendance Office beginning September 1. In addition to fulfilling the role of Attendance Coordinator, Mrs. Tiseo R.N. will also be Marian’s Medical Crisis Coordinator.

Also joining us this week is Mr. Sal Malek, who we are pleased to announce will be our interim athletic director during our search for a permanent Athletic Director. Mr. Malek is well-known and highly-respected in his profession, both in metro Detroit and beyond. He brings 35+ years’ experience as a certified athletic director in the Detroit Catholic League (including 25 years at Ladywood and 8 years at Academy of the Sacred Heart). Mr. Malek and Mrs. Tiseo are both very excited to join Marian, and look forward to getting to know our students, families, and staff in the coming weeks.

NEW SPANISH FACULTY (new last week)

We are excited to announce the addition of Mrs. Kim Truza ’94 to our Modern Language Faculty! Mrs. Truza comes to us with 20+ years of Spanish teaching experience, and she is very excited to get started. As was discussed during August 15 class meetings, students should please watch their email for communications from the counseling department regarding this addition to our faculty. Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Truza to Marian!

SENIOR PARENT MEETING PRESENTATION (new last week)

Thank you to all the parents who were able to make it to the Senior Parent Meeting on August 23. HERE is a link to the meeting recording, and HERE is a link to the slides. Look for emails soon from Ms. Varbedian with details about headshot photos and yearbook ads, and Mr. Hickey with details about the upcoming Senior Retreat. For any additional questions, please contact Mrs. Riek or Senior Moderator Mrs. Denha Tella.

STOP THE SILENCE ... REMEMBER, IT'S OK2SAY

As we continue to adapt to ever changing schedules and instructional formats, it's important that we don't allow the decreased time we spend together physically to decay into a culture of silence around harmful behavior. To that end, we are writing to remind you that OK2SAY is committed to preventing physical and emotional harm before it occurs by providing an easy-to-use, confidential, 24/7 tip line. Click here to report any potential threat to the safety of any member of the Marian Community.
