Spring 2025

COMPANY PROJECT UPDATES

Daniel Marr & Son Company

*NEW AWARD* The Fieldhouse+ Boston, MA

In Fall 2025, Daniel Marr & Son (DMS) will begin steel erection for The FieldHouse+, a landmark 75,000-square-foot facility located along Mount Vernon Street on Columbia Point. The project is a collaboration between the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester (BGCD) and the Martin Richard Foundation, and aims to serve over 1,000 Boston Public School students from day one.

DMS will work alongside general contractor Lee Kennedy Co. to erect approximately 1,000 tons of steel,  including large plate girders supporting a third-level indoor turf field and long-span composite joists for the roof. Several architecturally exposed structural steel (AESS) elements will also be featured throughout the building. Marr Crane & Rigging will provide cranes to support the steel installation, while Marr Scaffolding will supply aerial lifts for ironworker access and shoring as needed during the project.

The FieldHouse+ is a $70 million investment in youth development, designed to support a wide range of programs focused on health, well-being, and community connection. Its state-of-the-art amenities will include indoor courts, a turf field, a fitness center, a rooftop garden, and more. The space is envisioned as a central hub for youth and families.

Marr is proud to play a key role in bringing this new community space to life. The project holds special meaning for the company, as the Club was originally founded in 1974 by Bob and Dan Marr as the Colonel Daniel Marr Boys Club. Over the past 50 years, BGCD has grown tremendously and now serves more than 4,000 youth annually across three Dorchester clubhouses.

General Contractor: Lee Kennedy Co.; Steel Fabricator: Beauce Atlas.

**The Fieldhouse+ groundbreaking ceremony took place on Thursday, April 17th at Columbia Point in Dorchester. The event drew hundreds of attendees including government officials, stakeholders, and community members to celebrate the official start of construction.

Marr Scaffolding Company

Scaffold Division

115 Constitution Road Boston, MA

At 115 Constitution Road in Charleston, Marr began work in early January erecting a 600-foot perimeter scaffold, 80 feet high, around the building’s water and Navy Yard sides, including debris netting for demolition protection. A crew of five worked through challenging weather conditions, including cold temperatures and high winds, to safely complete the setup within a month. The scaffolding will remain in place for at least three months and will be dismantled in 20-foot sections as demolition progresses. Due to the building’s exposed location on Boston Harbor, the scaffold tie-in pattern was carefully reinforced to withstand strong winds. Customer: North South Construction.

Shoring Division

American Reparatory Theater Cambridge, MA

Construction is underway for the new home of the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University. The new space will feature two flexible performance venues, rehearsal studios, public spaces, and a café, all designed with sustainability in mind.

Currently, MSC’s Shoring Division is making significant progress on building a 55' x 65' deck for the A.R.T. This deck will eventually support double sheets of plywood decking and be raised 6 feet once the surrounding concrete decks are poured. Additionally, another 20' x 30' deck and two 15' x 20' decks are set to be built. These structures are designed to support a point load of 7,000 lbs. to accommodate a specialized "spider" lift. Once the steel structure is in place, the decks will be used to access higher areas during construction. Customer: Shawmut Design & Construction.

Isaac Blair & Company

*NEW AWARD* White Stadium Boston, MA

White Stadium, located within Franklin Park in Dorchester, is a 1940s-era facility with a seating capacity of 10,519. After over 80 years of use, the stadium’s structure and facilities have begun to show significant wear. As part of the ongoing renovations, Isaac Blair has been contracted to provide support and shore up the iconic 40-foot-tall, curving clamshell frontispiece while demolition is underway on the West Grandstand concrete bleacher seats, stadium foundation, and concrete floors and columns. Marr Scaffolding Company is assisting with the assembly of the frame and brace scaffolding, which Isaac Blair is then securing to the wall using guy wires anchored to concrete barriers. Completion of the renovated stadium is estimated for spring or summer 2026. Customer: JDC Demolition.

ASM Safety Roundtable Canton, MA

On January 15, 2025, OSHA updated its construction PPE standard, requiring employers to provide properly fitting PPE for workers. This change aligns the construction standard with the existing general industry standard.

On March 19th, Marr hosted the Associated Subcontractors of Massachusett's Safety Roundtable at the Marr Center for Safety Training to discuss the updated PPE standard. Special thanks to Cesar Ahumada from Sales Solutions for his insightful presentation on staying compliant with the new standard. The session featured engaging group discussions and a live demo of products designed to meet the updated guidelines.

Women In Construction Week

We are proud to celebrate the talented women of Marr – both on the jobsite and across our offices in South Boston, Braintree, and Springfield. Their contributions have played a vital role in our success for over 125 years. The photo above was taken during March's Women in Construction (WIC) Week 2025, ahead of International Women's Day. These events highlight the impactful and growing role women play in the construction industry, and we are excited to recognize and celebrate their achievements.
