Daniel Marr & Son Company
1165 Boston-Providence Turnpike Norwood, MA
In June, Daniel Marr & Son commenced steel erection for FM Global's new world-class research, science and technology facility in Norwood (1165 Providence Highway). The 320,000-square-foot complex incorporates approximately 3,000 tons of structural steel and will take six months to erect. Marr is using a Liebherr LR1200 crawler crane to hoist over 4,000 steel pieces during erection. In late September, the south structure was turned over ahead of schedule! The Marr team is now busy at work erecting the north structure (pictured above). Topping off is projected for late November. Scaffold Division
Massachusetts College of Art & Design Boston, MA
| |
The Scaffold Division is excited to showcase their latest contemporary art installation (kidding!) at the Massachusetts College of Art & Design, located at 121 Huntington Avenue. This 50-foot-high scaffold, extending beneath the building’s perimeter overhangs, serves a dual purpose of facilitating exterior renovation work and providing critical overhead protection across a heavily trafficked area along Huntington Avenue.
The building’s unique architectural design, with its varying grade, multiple entrances and ADA-accessible ramps, presented logistical design challenges for achieving safe access. In consultation with engineers and the project team, Marr adapted the scaffold layout, raising it to varying heights and installing intermediate work decks to access the areas under renovation.
Throughout this process, Marr has prioritized the safety of MassArt students, faculty and staff,
ensuring uninterrupted access while the work is underway. General Contractor: Commodore Builders

Aerial Lifts Division
citizenM Boston Back Bay Boston, MA
| |
At the new CitizenM Boston Back Bay Hotel located directly over the Mass Pike, Marr was contracted by CitizenM Hotels to design a safe access solution for the temporary installation of vinyl decals on the front glass facade. These artistic and eye-catching decals celebrate local individuals from the Boston area. At the building’s front entrance, Marr installed a 42-foot suspended scaffold platform and 50-foot by 20-foot pedestrian protection scaffold. The project was fast-tracked due to a last-minute scheduling request ahead of a VIP reception at the newly opened hotel. When all was said and done, Marr installed and later removed the equipment within one week. Marr will circle back in approximately two months to recreate this setup for the safe removal of the decals. Customer: citizenM Hotels
Shoring Division
Private Residence Dedham, MA
| |
Not all shoring projects are large and high-profile. Small jobs can be just as complex and rewarding. Marr’s Shoring Division recently devised a solution for the installation of new structural steel for a homeowner's addition.
The challenge involved supporting two existing channels and two steel beams running through the house, without disturbing the radiant polished concrete floor. Marr bolted channels to the wall, creating a base for support. These channels were reinforced with a steel beam and a 10k Ellis Jack anchored to the foundation wall. GASS post shores supported the tube steel, which sat on GASS dual beams, while cribbing outside provided additional stability. This intricate setup, all constructed within a two-foot-wide space, successfully supported a 15k load from the home. The shoring installation took two days, with the equipment remaining in place for an additional three days. Customer: Robert Lawrence Builders

Boston Convention & Exhibition Center Boston, MA
|
At the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, Marr Crane & Rigging is assisting customer SullyMac in their efforts to upgrade the 80-foot-tall marquee located on Summer Street. The project involves the hoisting and installation of several large video signage pieces, each weighing approx. 1,000 lbs., with the use of a specialized mini crane. Marr aerial lifts, including a JLG1250AJP articulating boom lift, are also in use. The project has presented several challenges, including mini crane operation within a very limited footprint in order to maintain sidewalk egress for pedestrians and to address ground pressure constraints over an active parking garage. The mini crane selected by Marr for the project weighs in at just 40,000 lbs. When completed later this fall, visitors to the Seaport will be able to see the marquee’s vibrant displays from up to half a mile away. Customer: Sullivan & McLaughlin
Lagahoina Church Lawrence, MA | In July, Isaac Blair began working directly with Gaspar Investments Inc. to reinforce the exterior walls of Lagahoina Church in Lawrence, MA, for an interior renovation. To secure the 100-year-old structure, Isaac Blair used B10 tilt-up wall braces—35 feet in length and weighing 350 lbs. each—with screw jack adjustments at both ends. A Marr lull and boom lift were employed for their installation, facilitating a safe and efficient process. Customer (Property Owner): Gaspar Investments Inc.

Marr Family Catholic Schools Scholars Ceremony Dorchester, MA
At the 34th Annual Marr Family Catholic Schools Scholars ceremony, held on October 1st at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester (BGCD), 49 students from 10 Catholic elementary and high schools were awarded scholarships. Representatives from the BGCD, Catholic Schools Office, Catholic Community Fund and the Marr family also attended the event. Dan Marr III and Cynthia Marr both addressed the scholars and their families.
The BGCD, founded in 1974 by brothers Dan and Bob Marr in memory of their father, Colonel Daniel Marr, was established to provide a safe space for local children. The scholarship program, which provides tuition assistance for Club members to attend Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Boston, was established in 1992 by a gift from the estate of the late Daniel F. Marr, Jr. Catholic Schools Scholarship Fund and has since been augmented by his late brother Bob Marr and his wife Cynthia. Since its inception, the program has awarded over $1.6 million in scholarships to more than 2,100 deserving students.
The Marr family is grateful to BGCD staff and the Catholic Church who oversee the scholarship program annually, and congratulates the class of 2024-2025!
