The Mars Essex Horse Trials Continue Support of the LifeCamp

Far Hills, NJ – May 15, 2019 - The Mars Essex Horse Trials Country Weekend is pleased to announce its continued support of the LifeCamp in Pottersville, NJ. Celebrating its third running June 21-23, 2019 at the beautiful, historic Moorland Farm in Far Hills, New Jersey, the Mars Essex Horse Trials will feature Beginner Novice through Advanced divisions as well as a variety of family friendly activities.

“We are extremely grateful to the Essex Horse Trials for their continued support,” said Kathleen Cree, Executive Director of LifeCamp. “Their donation will go a long way towards providing Newark-area youths the opportunity to participate in our unique summer program.”

“We are proud to once again support the LifeCamp,” said Ralph Jones, President of the Mars Essex Horse Trials. “The program is a wonderful opportunity for New Jersey youths to experience such an inspirational environment. It is a privilege to show our support through our donation.”

The LifeCamp movement began in 1887, when the original editor of Life Magazine founded the Life Fresh Air Fund. That program assisted in sending underprivileged children to bucolic locations to enjoy fresh air and sunshine. Today, the LifeCamp provides an enriching day camp experience for approximately 300 Newark-area youths each day for six weeks during the months of June, July and August.

The mission of LifeCamp, Inc. is to empower youth to succeed and excel in life by developing life skills, character and leadership through a summer enrichment program outside of an urban environment. Campers are between the ages of 6 and 13 and come from the greater Newark public school system as well as from Newark Charter School Programs (KIPP, Philip’s, North Star, Link, Newark Legacy and New Horizon).

The campus is located on 90 acres of open fields, rolling hills, woodlands and the Lamington River. The campus has proven to be an effective teaching environment that makes learning enjoyable. The LifeCamp program gives children a place to pursue their academic interests, apply the skills they have learned during the school year in an environment that is supportive and conducive to exploration, mastery and fun. The kids also learn to swim, ride bikes and express themselves creatively through the arts.

The overall LifeCamp program balances the arts, athletics and academic enrichment as well as personal growth and development which is designed to help Newark’s youth become more confident in their abilities, improve their self-esteem, and develop greater autonomy and leadership qualities.
About the Essex Horse Trials
For three decades, the famed Essex Horse Trials was a major highlight on the equestrian calendar, attracting top American and international competitors as well as thousands of fans who enjoyed its social aspects as well. The event was originally conceived in 1968 by the Haller Family at Hoopstick Farm. Proceeds from the event benefit the Greater Newark LifeCamp in nearby Pottersville, which provides an enriching day camp experience for approximately 300 Newark-area youths per day for six weeks during July and August.

Moorland Farm, a picturesque 230-acre property, provides the breathtaking setting for the event’s current edition. It is the home of the annual Far Hills Race Meeting, a nationally prestigious steeplechase race meeting held each October.

Mars, Inc., the original sponsor of the Essex Horse Trials, returned in 2017 and continues as the event's title sponsor. Presenting sponsors include Open Road Auto Group, Peapack-Gladstone Bank, RWJ Barnabas Health, Running 'S' Equine Veterinary Services, and AIG.
