Spotlight on our people

Mark Reusser has been co-chair of the Thames River PRC steering committee since its inception.

The Vice-President of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) is a tireless advocate for farmers and has a deep knowledge and appreciation for environmental issues.

Mark has a turkey and cash crop farm near New Dundee in Waterloo County, Ontario. He is actively involved in the OFA, representing District 9 - the counties of Dufferin, Wellington and Waterloo. He's also very involved in his community and has been a dedicated champion for the Thames River PRC - providing presentations about what we're doing at various conferences, chairing our meetings and webinars and working hard to secure support and funding for our research projects.

Project Updates

With a dry year in 2020, there wasn't much in the way of water flow for some of our demonstration projects, but we did get some data.

Our project leads have been doing a great job of keeping everyone up to date on progress.

Co-Chairs present to Canadian, U.S. cities

Co-Chairs Mark Reusser and Clare Latimer briefed municipal elected officials and staff from both sides of the Canada-U.S. border on March 16, 2021. The presentation was built on the issues plaguing Lake Erie and how the Thames River PRC is researching technologies that may be applicable in other places.

Mark also discussed how technologies in the drainage space compare to surface best management practices, and if/whether both are necessary. Check out the full presentation here.

OFA Research Day Roundup

On May 6th, Charlie Lalonde provided an update to one of our sponsor organizations, the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, on the progress the Thames River PRC group is making in researching technologies to divert and extract phosphorus from agricultural runoff.

Charlie also presented on another project he's working called Resilient Fields, which is a computer/phone application in which farmers can select the best crop production practices and have a permanent record of why they made the decisions they made.
