Mayor Report Social Share Weiss
Dear Shaker Resident,

Welcome to the March edition of  The Mayor's Report . Below is a short video from me followed by a transcript of the message.

As many of you may know, I have helped to convene a recently formed Joint Facilities Task Force. The Task Force is a collaboration among the City, Schools and Library.

I am pleased to share with you an exciting initiative spearheaded by the Task Force called “Forward Together.” The goal of Forward Together is to develop a comprehensive and coordinated Facilities Master Plan for current and future community facilities and physical assets. We believe that a coordinated plan will put our community in the best position to retain and attract residents for years to come while simultaneously being good stewards of your tax dollars.

Over the coming months, the Task Force will invite the public to participate in workshops and other events to help gather insight and ideas about the future of our community facilities. Widespread community participation is vital to the success of this initiative.

The kick-off event is on Tuesday, March 26 at 7 pm in the High School Large Auditorium with a panel of speakers and Q&A session on the future of cities, education, and libraries. The details are below and I hope you'll join me.

Look for details on additional events taking place in April and June. In the meantime, visit Forward Together to read more.

Lastly, I wanted to alert you to an important change in the Cuyahoga County’s ReadyNotify emergency notification system. The county’s Office of Emergency Management has upgraded to a new, more powerful platform called CodeRed. It is used to alert County residents about emergency situations, including weather alerts. As with the previous platform, the City is able to utilize this system — free of charge — to send alerts specific to Shaker Heights. This system is a critical communication tool if we need to quickly disseminate important information, especially in an emergency situation.

I urge you to sign up for CodeRed . When you sign up, be sure to select Shaker Heights to ensure you receive local alerts. Because of the change in platforms, even if you previously signed up for the ReadyNotify system, you will need to re-register in order to receive the alerts.

Thank you and I hope to see you around town.
