Dear Shaker Resident,

Welcome to the October edition of The Mayor's Report . I appreciate the opportunity to use this electronic newsletter to keep you informed about initiatives I am focused on and to report on important news and developments from around the City. Below is a short video from me followed by a more detailed message.

Activity in the Van Aken District continues to ramp up. Today, the weekly Sunset Market takes place from 4–7 pm and on Sunday, October 21, the second East Side Flea will once again enliven the District from 10 am–4 pm. In addition to the array of food and retail vendors at these events, you also will be able to visit the many new shops that are now open including Mitchell’s Ice Cream, Bonobos, See Eyewear, Andrews Colour Atelier, Double Rainbow, Eddy’s Barbershop and Xhibition. Based on the overwhelming success of the Sunset Markets and last month’s Flea, I’m sure these will be festive and social gatherings that you won’t want to miss.

I am also thrilled to announce that The Dealership is the new home to the highly regarded Verb Ballets Center for Dance. I hope you’ll join me at their Grand Opening Celebration on Friday, October 19 from 4-6 pm. The celebration will include a short ballet performance and a free Musical Theater Jazz class from 4:15-5:15 pm taught by dancer David Alvarez, who won a Tony Award for his role of Billy Elliott. Verb Ballets is a fabulous community asset and another example of the value we place on the arts in Shaker.

As we move into the fall, the 2019 budget process is in full swing. We are increasing transparency and encouraging community participation in the budget process by inviting the public to attend our budget meetings and providing an opportunity for you to share your thoughts and feedback as we consider various budget priorities. Please consider joining us at the next budget meeting on October 22. The meeting begins at 7 pm, but I recommend checking Agendas and Minutes at http://bit.ly/2dVmChV to determine approximately what time the budget will be discussed. For the full budget discussion schedule visit https://shakeronline.com/news-and-events/1252-2019-budget-public and look for reminders on social media.

With so many possibilities, I look forward to seeing you at one of the many fun and interesting things to do in the City!
