Every business has a mission statement; it defines the core purpose of the organization. At the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay, our mission is to ensure that no one in our community has to face crisis alone. Our new strategic plan more closely aligns all of our work with our mission statement. Every day, we provide a myriad of services in the Gateway and Corbett Trauma Center to meet this mission. But nowhere is our mission more evident than in TransCare, our emergency transportation service.
Over 36,000 times a year, TransCare provides emergency medical and behavioral health transportation to our community's most vulnerable citizens. During every TransCare new employee orientation, I talk to them about our mission, and their role in making this mission a reality for the patients we serve....

Sam Bathon was having a great day.
He had recently graduated from the Emergency Medical Technician program at Hillsborough Community College and was in his third week working for the Crisis Center's TransCare Medical Transportation. He had just completed his very first 12-hour shift as an EMT and was ready to relax after a hard day's work.

TransCare Expands Services
|

TransCare staff provide safe and compassionate care to individuals battling substance abuse. |
When someone abuses drugs or alcohol, they can put themselves and those around them in danger. To help alleviate that strain, Florida's Marchman Act provides temporary substance abuse evaluation and treatment in emergency situations.
In April, TransCare Medical Transportation expanded its scope of services to include Marchman Act transports in Hillsborough County. For over 30 years, TransCare has handled mental health transports for the county's Baker Act patients. Staff already have the training and experience to handle these types of specialized and sensitive transports, so the addition of Marchman substance abuse transports fits well into TransCare's scope of services.
TransCare's involvement in doing these transports reduces the burden on local law enforcement and provides an easier, less traumatic experience for the patient and their loved ones.
