As Nantucket’s spring lures visitors, there are island-wide openings, museums, restaurants and other near-summer harbingers bring excitement! As summer nears, cyclers meander gleefully, flowers blossom, and verdant grass and foliage return to Nantucket’s magnificent hiking trails. Enjoy Nantucket Food & Wine Festival, attend new comedy Meteor Shower, the MET Live Turandot opera or National Theater Live’s HEX at Nantucket Dreamland. Newly-stocked shops will welcome visitors with great prices and selections! Take island or other tours, lounge on the beach, have a dip, or shop, ‘Sconset Bluff Walk and indulge all your senses. The 24th annual Nantucket Food & Wine Festival returns May18-22 with tastings, events, seminars and galas. There is live entertainment, endless beaches, Cisco Brewers, Bartlett’s Farm and far more. Time to return to Nantucket!

North of Boston

Celebrate Mother's Day weekend at Cider Hill Farm May 6–8. There is a little something for everyone in the family, from tulip picking, blossoming orchard hikes and blooming greenhouses to fitness events, free live music, hard cider bars plus cold brew, BBQ, and ice cream pop-ups. Discover Marblehead and the Marblehead Chamber of Commerce are hosting the Second Annual Spring Celebration on Saturday, May 14 (rain date May 15). It will be a day of fun-filled community events, activities, shopping, and more, all-around Marblehead!

Mayflower II is back in Plymouth Harbor from her winter rest just in time for Plimoth Patuxet Museums to celebrate it’s 75th anniversary! The Berkshires

Chesterwood, a site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, will mark the centennial anniversary of the Lincoln Memorial on May 26 with the premiere of a documentary film exploring the life and work of Daniel Chester French (1850-1931), sculptor of the iconic Abraham Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D. C. The screening will be held at the Mahaiwe Theater in Great Barrington, followed by a scholarly panel discussion. Chesterwood will also host a Lincoln Memorial Centennial Celebration on May 30 from 12-3. Check out all the events here.

Greater Merrimack Valley

On May 1, 10,000 Maniacs takes the stage at 7 pm at Cary Hall in Lexington. Celebrating their 40th Anniversary, 10,000 Maniacs has covered plenty of ground, from cult-stardom to international stardom, to their current status as a cornerstone alternative band. Next up,Chris Botti will perform at 7 pm May 8 at Lowell Auditorium. Since the release of his 2004 critically acclaimed CD "When I Fall In Love," Chris Botti has become the largest-selling American instrumental artist. His success has crossed over to audiences usually reserved for pop music and his ongoing association with PBS has led to four #1 jazz albums.

With SummitWynds’ Kentucky Derby Tea and Beechwood Hotel’s Mother’s Day Brunch, May is off to the races. Discover free Jane Week events in Worcester, followed by entertainment opportunities like complimentary lunchtime concerts at Mechanics Hall and Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood Live! at The Hanover Theatre. As the month wraps, the Bravehearts reveal a new stadium art mural to their fans, while the community looks ahead to June’s Tercentennial events, featuring a free Boston Pops/Brian McKnight concert

Franklin County

Greenfield Bee Fest: Celebrating Lorenzo Langstroth will be held May 21 from 9 am to 3 pm in downtown Greenfield! Children's events will happen on the lawn of Second Congregational Church from 9 am to noon. Greenfield Bee Fest was launched in 2010 to celebrate the invention of the beehive by local hero Rev. Lorenzo Langstroth, “Father of Modern Beekeeping." Bee Fest offers fun and learning for all ages, highlighting the essential role of honeybees in our environment! The festival has grown to include children and adult activities, crafts, costume parade, art installation, honey wine tastings & more. Three new bee sculptures will be unveiled to join 6 others in the town hive!

North Central Mass

Spring is here, and the concert series featuring the Frederick Collection of Historical Grand Pianos again turns Ashburnham into a music-lover’s mecca. This month, music by Schubert, Debussy, Schumann, Brahms and a host of Polish pianists-composers will fill the air at the New Dawn Arts Center/Ashburnham Community Church each Sunday afternoon. Launched in 1985, the spring and fall concerts attract noted pianists to perform music as the composers themselves would have heard it — a unique experience for today’s audiences!

Mohawk Trail Region

Memorial Hall is one of New England’s oldest museums. When Deerfield Academy’s original 1798 school building became available, antiquarian George Sheldon organized the collection of artifacts he was assembling, and in 1880 Memorial Hall opened. The museum’s extraordinary collection of furnishings, paintings, textiles, and Indian artifacts is “the finest collection of local antiquities in New England” and is one of America’s oldest museums.
