Pentecost: The Power of the Holy Spirit in Our Lives
“And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind…” – Acts 2:2 (NRSV)
As we gather this Sunday to celebrate Pentecost, we remember the day when the promised Holy Spirit descended upon the gathered believers, igniting the early Church with divine power, unity, and purpose.
Pentecost is not just a moment in biblical history—it is the very heartbeat of the Church today. It is the fulfillment of Christ’s words in Acts 1:8: “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you…”
This outpouring of the Spirit marked the beginning of a new season—a movement not built on human wisdom or strength, but upon the dynamic power of God working in and through His people. In that upper room, ordinary men and women were filled with extraordinary grace. They spoke with boldness, lived with compassion, and carried the Gospel into a world in desperate need of salvation.
In the Wesleyan tradition, we affirm that the Holy Spirit not only regenerates the believer at the moment of new birth but continues to sanctify us, making us holy, empowering us to love God with our whole heart and our neighbor as ourselves. This is not a distant theological concept—it is a living reality. The Holy Spirit is our Comforter, Counselor, and constant Companion. He leads us into all truth, convicts us of sin, strengthens us in weakness, and binds us together as one body in Christ.
In these uncertain times, we are reminded afresh that the Church does not thrive by programs or preferences but by the presence of the Holy Spirit. When He moves among us, barriers are broken, hearts are healed, the Word is proclaimed with power, and lives are transformed.
So let us come to worship this Pentecost Sunday (remember to wear your red/orange) with open hearts. Let us seek a fresh infilling of the Spirit. Let us pray, as the early Church did, with one accord, for God to do again what He did then: to shake the house, set our tongues ablaze, and send us out as bold witnesses to the Risen Christ.
Come, Holy Spirit—revive Your Church once more.
In His power and peace,
Pastor Tony

Sunday Worship Service, June 8th @ 9:30am
It's going to be a great day at Christ Methodist Church this Sunday as we join for worship. We will be observing Pentecost, which celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit to the disciples 50 days after the resurrection of Jesus. The story in Acts 2 describes a powerful wind and tongues of fire as the Holy Spirit was poured out on people from all over the world who came to Jerusalem to celebrate a Jewish feast. At the first Pentecost, over 3000 people were baptized, creating the first church. This is why Pentecost is known as the birthday of the Christian church. Pastor Tony's message entitled "Empowered for a Holy Purpose" is based on the Gospel reading from Acts 2. You won't want to miss it!
Our Chorale will share a celebrative anthem entitled "All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name," based on the very popular and beloved hymn tune. Also, our wonderful pianist, Phillip Preston, will share a moving offertory based on "Holy Spirit, Breathe on Me." You will also be blessed during the prelude as our Voices in Bronze Handbell Choir shares a joyful piece entitled "Jubilate," which means to rejoice or show great elation or triumph. This piece is composed by Russian composer Dmitri Bortniansky and will start our service on a joyful note.
We look forward to seeing you all on Sunday at Lee-Scott at 9:30!
