It is traditional that the choir does not sing for Worship Services during the summer months when snow-birds return north and people leave on vacations. Therefore, last week was the final choir participation until the fall.
Choir member Victor Rasicci has been experimenting with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and created this adaptation of the choir photo included in the Centennial Commemorative Booklet. Thank you, Victor, for making the choir look so angelic.

SPECIAL RECOGNITIONS
During this Centennial Year HSCPC will be periodically giving recognition to people who have played special roles in the church history. This Sunday, June 14, 2026, during the Worship Service, David and Linda Chambers will be honored.

Ted and “Vee” Chambers moved to Martin County in 1927, living first in Stuart and then moving to Hobe Sound during the 1940’s. While in Hobe Sound Ted established the Hobe Sound Electric Company, and during the 1940’s.50’s. and 60’s very few buildings in Hobe Sound and Jupiter Island both new and re-modeled were not wired electrically by his company. They had two children, Ann who died tragically at an early age, and David, who after serving in the military returned to establish his own electric business after his Father had closed his because of failing health. This describes the Chambers family being in Martin County and the Hobe Sound Community.
But the most important things to know about the Chambers family is their deep interest in, and commitment to the community they lived in. Both Ted and Vee Chambers involved themselves in almost every need in Hobe Sound. Ted either led, or took part in the community fish fry’s, establishing youth baseball leagues, and coaching the players, establishing the Jupiter / Hobe Sound Kiwanis club, of which he was first president. The #1 baseball field in JV Reed Athletic Park was dedicated to Ted, in recognition of his work with youth baseball here in Hobe Sound. Whenever volunteers were needed to help someone or something, Ted was quick to respond. There was almost no activity of community interest that Vee Chambers was not committed to. Schools and education were of great interest to her, and she contributed her time and talents to raise the level of performance in the Hobe Sound and Martin County school system. One of her most important achievements was leading the campaign for the establishment of a state college here on the Treasure Coast, which led to the Indian River Community College, and which is now Indian River State College. Vee was as certain as anyone to know of people or families in need of help, and to find ways of delivering help to them. She was without doubt, a very caring person for others. Vee Chambers was also a talented singer. She was the song leader for this Church’s Vacation Bible Schools, as well as a member of the Church choir, and a soloist often during worship services. She was also one of the soloists for the Jupiter Island Christ Chapel. Together Vee and Ted Chambers were leaders in establishing St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in 1932 in Stuart. Ted and Vee Chambers led their lives with character and compassion for others and with religion as their foundation.
David and his wife Linda have continued the Chambers family tradition of love of community, and compassion for others. Quiet acts like donation of flags to our Church in memory of David’s mother and father, and electrical services provided to some of our Church needs are examples along with other community anonymous services and gifts. As a youth, David participated in the Christmas Pageants put on by our Church, and other community youth activities which took place at our Church.
Hobe Sound Community Presbyterian Church is pleased to recognize the contributions the Chambers family have made to our Church and the Hobe Sound Community over many years.

A CENTENNIAL YEAR FEATURE IN THE MESSENGER
Throughout the rest of the year, the Centennial Committee is offering a “DID YOU NOW” segment featuring items of interest from the history of our church as it celebrates its 100th anniversary, and also of the United States as it celebrates its 250th anniversary.

OUR CHURCH IN 1950’s
During the 1950’s Reverend Floyd Hager and his family become the first residents of the newly constructed Manse. The new, much improved campus was well used by the neighborhood for ping pong tournaments, summer games and competitions; field trips, food events and Sunday School classes. THE HISTORY & CELEBRATION OF FLAG DAY

On June 14, 1777 the continental Congress passed a resolution that would forever solidify the basic design of an iconic symbol – the American flag. Nearly 250 years later, the American flag is a symbol of freedom and hope around the world. In the United States, it is flown on civic buildings, in front of homes, at ballfields, and carried in parades and in events by proud military personnel and civilians alike.
The Flag Act that passed on June 14, 1777 reads as follows:
“Resolved, that the flag of the United States be made of thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new Constellation.”
| | | While the number of stars has changed over the years to accurately portray the number of states in the union, the number of stripes has remained the same, serving as a reminder of the humble beginnings of the United States as thirteen colonies fighting for their independence. Since its official creation in 1777 the flag has gone through 27 iterations, though the one that we know today with fifty stars has been the official United States flag since 1960. | | A REQUEST FROM THE CENTENNIAL COMMITTEE | | |
As part of our 100th Centennial Celebration, Hobe Sound Community Presbyterian Church is preparing for a special Fourth of July Community Event, and we need your help! We are asking members of our church family to consider donating some specific items or making a monetary contribution to help us serve our community and celebrate this historic occasion.
The specific items requested are:
Bottled Water (short or tall sizes)
Soft Drinks: Fanta orange, Sprite, Coke, Diet Coke
Boxes of Chips purchased at Dollar General, Publix, Walmart, etc.
Monetary Donations:
Make checks payable to: Hobe Sound Community Presbyterian Church. Please use a Mission Envelope, crossing out “Mission’ and writing in “Fourth of July Celebration”.
Donation collection dates at church are June 14, June 21, & June 28. Donations can also be dropped or at the church office Monday – Thursday 9:00AM – 12:00 noon, or mailed to the church at 11933 SE Juno Crescent, Hobe Sound, FL 33455.

SECOND FRIDAY MISSION DINNER
The Second Friday Dinner in June will be held on June 12, 2026 5:30-7:00PM.
This month's dinner is BBQ Baby Back Ribs, Baked Potato, Salad, Rolls and Butter and delicious assorted deserts. The cost of each dinner is $20 and Take-Out is available. Call the church office at (772) 546-5043 Mon-Thurs. 9am-12pm to make your reservation.

Instructor Sandra Price, an experienced yoga practitioner, RYT200, and Certified Chair Yoga Instructor, offers CHAIR YOGA classes in our fellowship hall on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 AM.
As summer approaches, Sandra has returned to teaching only 2 classes per week, at a new time:
Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30-10:30 AM

A SEWING & CRAFT CIRCLE
The sewing circle meets every Thursday afternoon @ 1 pm in what was previously the Art Room, now identified as the Community Creative Space, with Sheila Fortura serving as hostess. It’s a wonderful time to work on your own projects, and learn new handwork skills from others. For information you can contact Sheila at psfortura@att.net, or 772-708-8983.

CHURCH THRIFT STORE
The church Thrift Store is open on Sunday mornings during Fellowship Hour after the Worship Service. It contains a large variety of items, both decorative and useful, that are just waiting to find their new homes.
Members and friends of the church are encouraged to pay the store a visit on Sunday mornings after Church. All proceeds from sales are donated to help meet the financial obligations of the Church.

BUILDING IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
BUILDING ON A STRONG FOUNDATION
On January 10, 1926, Hobe Sound Community Church was organized under the supervision of the Presbyterian Church, USA.
As we looked toward our 100th birthday, and made plans for the exciting centennial celebration to take place in the year 2026, we also began an ambitious and much needed Building Improvement Plan extending through 2025, and beyond. All donations to this fund-raising campaign to help maintain and preserve our historical church facility have been warmly received and appreciated
THE FIRST PHASE OF THE BUILDING IMPROVEMENT PLAN consisted of installation of new storm resistant windows in the Sanctuary and Manse, and accompanying needed repairs.
THE SECOND PHASE OF THE PLAN consisted of renovations in the kitchen and fellowship hall.
THE THIRD PHASE OF THE PLAN consisted of repair and painting of the church steeple.
THE FOURTH (AND FINAL) PHASE will be replacement of the church roof and attached structures. Fund raising projects are continuously underway to make this major and expensive project possible.
