AN INVITATION TO WEAR A CHURCH T-SHIRT ON SUNDAY
This coming Sunday the choir will be wearing their Centennial T-shirts during the Worship Service as a tribute to this historic centennial year. The Centennial Committee saw this as an opportunity for the entire congregation to join in an unofficial “t-shirt Sunday”. If you are attending church this Sunday (May 3) you are invited, if you wish, to wear a church sponsored t-shirt. In addition to the Centennial shirt, it can be any of the several that have been made available over the past few years, i.e. dog park, car show, I Heart Hobe Sound, etc. or any faith-based shirt.

CHURCH PICTURE DIRECTORY DISTRIBUTED ON APRIL 26
After many weeks of photo sessions after Worship Services in the church Sanctuary, many days of collecting contact information, many hours of compiling and organizing these and related candid photos, and final proofing of it all, the church Centennial Committee distributed the 2026 Hobe Sound Community Presbyterian Church Picture Directory last Sunday. These hard working committee members should be very proud of this outstanding publication, “a historical snapshot of our church family…in our Centennial Year” quote from Rev. Paul Bayerl.
The Centennial Committee consists of Kathy Oldham, Dr. Anita Caswell, Suellen Millroy, Lou Ann Prestegard, Cindy Fucigna, Deborah Carrington, Art Ondich, Mary Wilburn. The HSCPC family offers a heartfelt THANK YOU to this committee for its hard work and time spent in collectively producing this Centennial keepsake Photo Directory.
The HSCPC family also extends its heartfelt appreciation to professional photographer Mr. Humphrey Caswell Jr. for his exceptional photography, editing and professional expertise in creating both this Congregational Picture Directory and the Commemorative Booklet which was distributed earlier in this Centennial year. This tribute to him can be found on the back page of the Picture Directory.
| | | | At the April 26 Worship Service, photographer Humphrey Caswell presented to Rev. Paul Bayerl a framed enlargement of the photo of himself and his wife Xiomy that appears in the Picture Directory. Pastor Paul says that it will hang proudly above the sofa in their living room. | | |
GIRL SCOUTS DELIVER FOOD COLLECTION
TO HOUSE OF HOPE
During the past 3 weeks the girls of Girl Scout Troop 31013 (who meet on our church campus) have been supporting 🌴“ FEEDING FLORIDA” 🌴 by participating with House of Hope and collecting canned goods and non-perishable items. They invited our church members and friends to participate if they wished, and leave donated food items at church for the girls to add to their collection.
The girls have sent a special thank you to the church members and friends for their significant contribution to this food drive. The total donation was delivered to the House of Hope last week, and the total collected weighed in at 250 pounds.

A CENTENNIAL YEAR FEATURE IN THE MESSENGER
Starting today, and continued in future issues of the MESSENGER this year, the Centennial Committee will be offering a “DID YOU KNOW” segment featuring items of interest from the history of our church as it celebrates its 100th anniversary, and also of the United States as it celebrates its 250th anniversary.
DID YOU KNOW
OUR CHURCH IN THE 1920’s
“Dad” and “Mother” Lester initiate and organize a group of faithful worshipers who are of the Presbyterian faith. The church quickly grows and is formally recognized on 10 January 1926 as Hobe Sound Community Church.
The church closes sometime in the 1930’s ; it was not until the 1940’s that our church was reorganized under Presbyterian Principles and we become Hobe Sound Community Presbyterian Church.
| | |
OUR COUNTRY IN THE 1920’s
The 1920s in America, known as the “Roaring Twenties” was defined by rapid cultural and economic change ; giving women the right to vote, prohibition which led to organized crime, the Harlem Renaissance; a vibrant flowering of African American culture, literature, art and music. Key events included the 1929 stock market crash, the rise of a mass media craze which included the use of the radio in millions of homes.

HOBE SOUND COMMUNITY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
BUILDING IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
BUILDING ON A STRONG FOUNDATION
On January 10, 1926, Hobe Sound Community Church was organized under the supervision of the Presbyterian Church, USA.
As we looked toward our 100th birthday, and made plans for the exciting centennial celebration to take place in the year 2026, we also began an ambitious and much needed Building Improvement Plan extending through 2025, and beyond. All donations to this fund-raising campaign to help maintain and preserve our historical church facility have been warmly received and appreciated
THE FIRST PHASE OF THE BUILDING IMPROVEMENT PLAN consisted of installation of new storm resistant windows in the Sanctuary and Manse, and accompanying needed repairs.
THE SECOND PHASE OF THE PLAN consisted of renovations in the kitchen and fellowship hall.
THE THIRD PHASE OF THE PLAN consisted of repair and painting of the church steeple.
THE FOURTH (AND FINAL) PHASE will be replacement of the church roof and attached structures. Fund raising projects are continuously underway to make this major and expensive project possible.
