80th General Convention Recap:

Shortened, Masked, Tested, and Legislated

By The Rev. Mary Frances Schjonberg for Episcopal News Service

The 80th General Convention of The Episcopal Church is one for the history books, and not just for the decisions made but also for how the COVID-19 pandemic changed the way the church conducted its business.

The July 8-11 gathering – postponed a year because of COVID-19 and shortened from eight days – conducted what Presiding Bishop Michael Curry had referred to during the planning process as “matters essential for the governance and good order of the church.” Still, 412 resolutions were filed for consideration. IMPORTANT NEWS FROM CHRIST CHURCH

In Case You Missed It:

Resignation Letter from The Rev. Tristan Shin

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

After three wonderful years as your Assistant Priest, I have decided to leave Christ Church and my last Sunday with you will be September 18. It has been a privilege to share a journey of faith with you.

While preparing this letter, I remembered how we had woven our lives together. I remember the baptisms, last-minute weddings, funerals, brunches, rummage sales, Christmas pageants, chanting for the first time at Evensong, scrambling to figure out how to Zoom, fellowship, and friendship. I remember it all! Christ Church has changed a lot in these last three years. We have laughed and cried, mourned, and eaten too many pancakes and portions of bacon. But never too much wine! We have said goodbyes to beloved members who have moved or gone on to the church triumphant and welcomed new people. [Read more]

Summer Text Study with Pastor Tristan

Sunday, July 24, 11:15am

When we talk about justice, we often refer to this text from Micah 6:8:

“He has told you, O mortal, what is good, and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God?”

This summer, we will look into what it means for us disciples of Christ to live into biblical justice as an integrated part of our daily lives. We will focus on the book Live Justly by Eugene Cho and other authors. This book engages diverse learning styles to move the reader to consider living justly as an act and expression of the love of God. It is deeply rooted in scripture and the core beliefs that God is sovereign over all and that God loves justice.

Please join Pastor Tristan on Sunday, July 24 after worship to explore how to live justly in six key areas: advocacy, prayer, consumption, generosity, creation care, and relationships. Hopefully, we will spark some new ideas for outreach as well. You can pick up a copy of the book or just come as you are!
