Light Beyond Shadow
A Community Memorial Service
One of the most tragic results of the COVID-19 pandemic was that lots of people passed away and were buried without public funerals.  In cemeteries across North Alabama, graveside services had to suffice.  Public memorial services would have been far more fitting, but were simply too risky.
So, on Sunday, August 8, at 2pm, we are going to hold a Community Memorial Service in our sanctuary.  We will publicly mourn the loss and celebrate the lives of those who passed away during the pandemic, no matter the cause of their deaths—COVID-related or not.  Our theme is Light Beyond Shadow.
If you lost a loved one since the pandemic began in the spring of 2020, we invite you to participate.  And, please, invite your friends who lost loved ones.  You will be invited to name the person you lost, and your relationship with that person. We will name their names as a sign that they are not forgotten.
If you did not lose a loved one during the pandemic, come to mourn and celebrate alongside those who did.  Remember that Romans 12:15 says we are to mourn with those who mourn.  Furthermore, as part of the service we will thank God for His deliverance during such a painful time, and we will worship Him as the giver of all good gifts.
One final thought:  Please get vaccinated.  With new strains of the coronavirus sweeping across the nation, churches become places of vulnerability when worshippers choose not to be vaccinated. We want to move forward toward increasing freedom and openness; we don’t want to regress to a place of fear.  More importantly, we love you and want you to be safe.
In the good times and the bad, it is an honor to be…
Your Pastor,
Travis
