June :
  • June 9 Pentecost
  • June 16 Father's Day
  • June 23 Silver & Gold Sunday
Guest Preachers have begun joining us on the first Sunday of each month through September so Jim Warren can have a break occasionally throughout the summer. This is one way we can support the Warren family. Please continue to keep them in prayer and watch for other opportunities to help them. We are thankful for the generosity of the following guest preachers:
  • June 2: Jim Turner (Thank you, Jim, for joining us last Sunday!)
  • July 7: Herb Knudsen
  • August 4: Herb Knudsen
  • September 1: Ed Taylor
Pentecost Offering will be collected June 9 to help our new church movement continue to take root! Each year, half of this offering stays in the local Region where it’s collected to start and uphold new churches.
Father's Day is June 16. We will honor all fathers with a slideshow. Please submit your photos by emailing them to Jen at [email protected] or by dropping them off at the church office for scanning (if you need a new or different photo). Deadline for submitting photos is June 8.

Silver & Gold Sunday is June 23. We will honor those who have been married 25 or 50 or more years and will do so in part with a slideshow. If you are being honored for the first time and/or we do not have your photo, please send it to Jen at [email protected] or drop it by the church office for scanning by June 17.

General Assembly will take place July 20-24 in Des Moines, IA. Disciples of Christ of all ages will gather from all over for the assembly with an “Abide in Me” theme, based on John 15:1-5. Terri Hord Owens, General Minister and President, describes the gathering in this way, “We will hear about exciting mission from MissionFest stories and general ministries working on our behalf. We will be gifted with the opportunity to learn with workshops ranging from elder training to administrative ministry and training for both lay and clergy leaders. We will come together at tables – the Lord’s Table in worship, luncheons with friends and dinners to learn about ministries of the Church. Most of all, we will be in the presence of other Disciples, sharing life, love, and passion for mission together.”

Des Moines is a very family-oriented town, with many fun activities and attractions. Why not make General Assembly a part of your summer travel? Learn more at www.ga.disciples.org .

Introduction to Centering Prayer Workshop

“My Soul finds rest in God alone.” Psalm 62:1
Centering Prayer is a simple method of quiet prayer to help you deepen your relationship with God. Rooted in scripture and ancient Christian insights, Centering Prayer invites us to open our minds and hearts to God as we consent to God’s presence and action within us. During the workshop you will have an opportunity to both learn and practice Centering Prayer.

FCC Volunteer Opportunities Volunteers are needed to help in several ways around FCC. Find signup sheets at the Info Desk.
Info Desk Update   The change in Messenger frequency necessitates getting info out sooner.  So, we will be creating the next Info Desk schedule the middle of June. The more volunteers we have the less frequently someone has to serve at the desk. As the schedule is now, serving is usually about once a year, sometimes twice, out of the entire year. Plus, others are very willing to trade if the need arises.

This is a joyful part of Sundays: greeting those coming in, especially talking with ‘first timers’ about FCC. Yes, you have to be at the desk about 20 minutes before and after the first service. The speakers in the centrum allow for you to hear the service and the Junior Deacons stop by with communion.

Please consider joining a wonderful group of members serving at the Info Desk. Both men and women are welcome to serve in this way. If you have questions, ask Mary Helen Haskell. To be a volunteer at the Info Desk, please tell Maggie in the FCC Office by June 14.
Want to help the Warrens by providing a meal?
If you would like to help provide meals for the Warren family, please follow the steps below. Thank you!
  • Go to the web site: www.takethemameal.com
  • Type in "Warren" for the family name
  • The Password: Godisgood
  • Sign up for the time(s) when you would like to supply a meal, and just follow the simple steps for delivery
The Messenger is a Monthly Newsletter?   On a trial basis, and as a cost-saving endeavor, The Messenger will now be mailed on the first Wednesday of each month. The trial will last through the summer. We will do our best to include comprehensive information in each issue, and you will find updates, breaking news, and weekend worship news in the bulletins and Friday Emails, as well as on Facebook and our website.
Serving Schedule
Serving Schedules are included in each Messenger and in the Friday Email (sent via email to all who have subscribed) two days before worship services. These are to help you as a final reminder of your duties. Ministry areas send initial serving calendars or schedules for each area of duty, and we hope you have already marked your calendar.  When you find it necessary to find a substitute, please try to trade with someone else and don’t forget to tell the church office at 309-829-9327 or [email protected] as soon as you can.  Knowing who is actually serving is important to the staff and leadership for various reasons. Thank you for your help!
