Disciples Women's Ministries News
- College semesters are well underway. It won't be long before students will be home for Thanksgiving. That only means Christmas and 2019 are not far behind. As you remember, our Disciples Women's Ministries group sends Love Boxes to our military personnel and college students at Valentine’s Day. Please make sure our office has the correct address for these folks. Please send the addresses to Maggie at [email protected] or give her a call. Be sure to put 'LOVE BOX' in the subject line. If the address changes for the spring semester, please re-send to Maggie. Thank you for your attention to this. After the first of the year there will be an easel with more details at the Information Center.
- The Disciples Women’s Ministries would like to thank everyone who contributed to their Operation Santa project. We concentrated on four types of items donated. These will be given or mailed to our military people who are serving in other countries. They will appreciate your generosity at Christmas time.

Is yurt heart at Camp Walter Scott?
Our region is very proud of our camping ministry, and we want to continue changing the lives of future generations. Some major repairs/ renovations are planned to help us do just that. This fall we will be replacing the roof of the dining hall and restoring the bath house facility on the south side of the lake.
In addition to these projects, several others are in the planning phase. This is where we need your help! Your Matching Grant contributions will go toward the purchase and installation of 10 yurts, complete with bunkbeds and electricity, and a splash pad.
Please prayerfully consider a contribution to this program. If you want to make a difference, donate now and your impact will be doubled by the CCIW Matching Fund Campaign. CCIW will match contributions up to $100,000. We encourage your gifts (www.cciwdisciples.org) by March 31, 2019 to benefit the 2019 camping season.

RE: Going Home
Closing time,
Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.
That’s a line from a song called “Closing Time” by the band SEMISONIC. It seemed appropriate at this time since I am ending this beginning as your Janitor/Security/Floor Mopper/Furniture Mover/Coffee Maker/Door Unlocker/Door Locker/Sketchy Person Checker-outer/etc. and beginning a new life in Michigan. It has been fun. Fun is kind of an odd word to use for a job where I clean toilets and make coffee; and, while I don’t make coffee directly after cleaning the toilets, it is still fun!
I have been privileged to join in many happy moments from anniversaries to weddings. While I am not central to the proceedings, in fact many times folks don’t even know I’m there, I am still present watching the joy on people’s faces, brides and grooms, new graduates, folks celebrating milestone birthdays 90-95-100 and up. Even moments that are not known for happiness, funerals and the like. I still look on those faces and know that even as their eyes closed in sorrow here, they opened with joy on Heaven's glory. Talk of a new beginning coming from another beginning's end!
That is the key for me though, stay in the moment, the happy moment and be thankful for it. As in Matthew 6:34 “So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” Now, I know I grumble about the mess and the furniture being moved and the loose candy wrappers but truly, I am grateful for this job. The troubles of each day are so tiny in comparison to feeling rewarded each time trouble turned around.
I guess I just want to say “Thank You” for letting me be a part of the life that moves through these walls. I wish I had more time to spend with you all but, it’s a new beginning and as the song goes, it starts with this new beginning's end.
Until we meet again at closing time.
May God Bless And Keep You All,
Joseph W. Calvert III (That means me, Wally)

“Everything We Have”
This is the story of the widow who put two copper coins into the offering, and she gave more than the rich people who put in far more than she did. Our lives are to be marked by a similar generous willingness to give of everything we have.

“Sharing the Gift” –
Thanksgiving Sunday
Jesus has healed a man possessed by many demons. This man now wants to join Jesus, but Jesus tells him to stay home. He stays behind and tells everyone what Jesus did for him. Jesus had given him a great gift in healing him, and the man shares that gift with those around him. So are we to share generously God’s gifts to us.
