Celebrating 17 years
as Pastor at College Hill!
|
In March we welcome the season of Lent.
The word “lent” means “springtime”, from an older word meaning “lengthen” – as in longer daylight hours. This is indeed the time of year when we notice new birth and new growth. This metaphor is meant to encourage and lead us into a time of transformation – of spiritual growth, renewal, and rebirth, for you and for us as a community of faith.
During this 40-day season, it is my hope that you and I will take an honest, in-depth look at our personal and congregational journey of faith.
Lent, however, isn’t just a time of self-denial (the emphasis with which many of us grew up), but rather a time to do whatever works best for you in order to return to the ways of God, and a recognition of God’s Presence in your life. It is my prayer that you will experience more fully God’s love, grace, and acceptance.
The theme this year is, “Everywhere [in] Between: A Lenten Series in Luke's Gospel.”
"This series is an invitation to navigate the polarities in our lives with more faith, intention, and openness to be transformed. Each weekly sub-theme explores two supposed binaries, like “faith & works” or “rest & growth,” or “grief & hope.” We often consider these ideas to be opposing. However, as we explore these concepts within the scriptures, we find nuance and complexity. We find that these dichotomies are false. We might begin to see a full spectrum instead of black and white. We might find that God is present in between."
So, let us focus on a healthy and meaningful spiritual life, a life that experiences a connection with the Sacred/Divine in our midst and within ourselves.
Blessings, Rev. Todd

Polly Kelly

Polly's Legacy
at College Hill
Polly Kelly gifted us with two Joys while at College Hill. The first was ‘the way she enriched our lives’, as Rev. Gordon Edwards so eloquently put it. We learned to appreciate, then admire, and for myself-also envy the depth of Polly's humanity.
The second was of course her daughter Joy. Joy not only inherited Polly's beautiful singing voice-but her humility, gentleness, and compassion as well.
Polly is no longer with us physically, but is still with us spiritually. We will continue to feel Polly's presence every time we interact with Joy!
Friends are the Flowers in the Garden of Life, and Polly Kelly brought that type of beauty to one and all at College Hill. Enrich our lives? She did indeed!

Sweet Valentine (buh, buh, buh)
We had a sweet time decorating all the sugar cookies that were so lovingly made by many of you! Folks made tasty and beautiful edible works of art. The neon pink frosting was a smashing success and who doesn’t love a pound or two of holiday sprinkles.
“Good times never tasted so good!”

Special Thanks to all who helped with the Nursery Work Day in February. So much was accomplished in the time we had! The nursery is now organized and all the toys are clean!
Nursery volunteers needed: With two of our most faithful volunteers (Nancy and Susan) traveling much of the spring, we would like to have a rotation of volunteers to help Wyneth each week. Please contact Betsy or Sue Haskins if you might be available.
Also, if you are interested in helping update the nursery space, please click the button below to view our Nursery Wishlist on Amazon:

Musical Performance for
Rev. Todd's 17th Anniversary
Sunday, March 16
during worship
The congregation will have the opportunity to hear a musical first! In celebration of Pastor Todd’s 17th year at College Hill, he has commissioned TU professor Joshua Lowery to create an arrangement of the Brahms Concerto No. 2 for cello and organ.
The first ever performance of this arrangement, played by Diane Bucchianeri, cello, and Mike Gibson, organ, will be a wonderful musical experience to share. Oh, and what a nice reason to invite a friend to worship!

Acolyte Training
Sunday, March 9 after worship
Acolytes play a crucial role in worship each week. Why do we have Acolytes? What are they actually doing? Why is being an Acolyte an important part of worship?
Kids ages 5-18 are invited to attend Acolyte Training after worship, Sunday, the 9th. (Parents are encouraged to attend with their children.) This short, but important session will help kids understand how they can be a part of our worship tradition.
Worship Connection
To help children gain an understanding of the church as community, we will be collecting an offering during Worship Connection each Sunday. When children attend Worship Connection, they are connecting with their faith journey in engaging and age appropriate ways. However, children miss the important ritual of people supporting the church with their financial contributions. The Worship Connection offering will eventually be used to support a cause the children select such as Heiffer Project, the
KWI Food Pantry, or our own Blessing Box.
Children’s Education Ministry
Welcome new Session Ministry Team Moderator, Charlotte Burton, to lead our ministry. We are looking for folks who would be willing to meet occasionally to direct the goals and work of this ministry. If you are interested, please contact our Director of Family & Children Ministry,
Betsy Guyer or Charlotte.
CHPC Children’s Library
Please enjoy a few selections from our library on display in the Fellowship Hall. The full library is on the 2nd floor in the Worship Connection room. All books are available to check out and enjoy.

LENT - Important Dates:
March 5, 2025 ~ Ash Wednesday
Please try to make time to bring the children in your care to the Ash Wednesday service. Some may wonder if this service is appropriate for children. We believe that helping kids to understand our traditions of worship throughout the year is important. Getting to see the congregation worship in times of quiet reverence as well as joyful praise (Easter) help children to know that all their emotions are valid and have a place in our community.
April 13, 2025 ~ Palm Sunday
Children of all ages are invited to join in the celebration of Jesus entering Jerusalem with the Palm Parade.
April 20, 2025 ~ Easter Sunday
Families are invited to stay for a bit after the joyful worship service for an Easter Egg Hunt. There will be specific eggs for peanut free kids. Please watch for Adopt-A-Dozen baggies. Adopt a dozen plastic eggs, fill with individually wrapped candies or small tokens like erasers or stickers, return to the church by Wed. April 16.

If you would like to bring flowers to decorate the sanctuary for an upcoming worship service, please sign up on the Flower Chart on the bulletin board in Fellowship Hall.
There are many open dates available for the new year. Your dedication will also be announced in the worship bulletin.
Flowers can be purchased from any store or brought from home. Please bring them in two containers the morning of the service for which you have signed up.

College Hill's
Blessing Box
You have seen the beautiful Blessing Box in the west garden, between the sanctuary and parking lot.
This is beautiful in two ways: the construction and design, but also the blessing it gives to those in need who pass by the church. With the box, they can slate their hunger, quench their thirst, wash, combat headaches, etc.
You have been generous supplying that box, but we are down to two weeks supply. If you are able, we could use individual packets of non-perishable food, small drink containers, hygiene products like soap, sanitizer, women's products, and the like. There will be an ongoing need for these items, so please donate whenever possible. Items can be placed in the Blessing Box closet in Fellowship Hall.
|
We have added to our weekly bulletins
and newsletters a new
QR Code
that will take people to the Donation page of our church website. Studies show how important this method of donating has become, especially for younger generations.
The code can be used for "Pledges or General Donations" to our operating budget, or for "Special Donations" which can be designated to occasional special collections taken throughout the year.
