Word from the Pastor

As a Commissioner from Eastern Oklahoma Presbytery to the Synod of the Sun, I traveled to El Paso, Texas, for the annual Assembly the last week in August.

We learned a LOT about border ministry, including the work done by Tres Rios Presbytery.

The photo above was taken at a cathedral in Juarez, Mexico, when several of us took a short walking tour. I'm glad to report it was quite uneventful in that we saw no migrants or any unusual activity besides daily life.

Earlier in the month I was able to spend four days at a Pastor's Wilderness Retreat at White Rock Mountain state park in Arkansas. Lots of hiking as well as time to read and rest!

October was filled with church activities and special events. They included our Fall Retreat, World Communion Sunday, Tulsa Pride Parade, No Kings Rally, Work Day, and Pizza & Pumpkins. Lots of good photos in the life of the church in this newsletter.

Commitment Sunday

November 9

Letters were recently sent out to the congregation, with information about our 2026 Stewardship Campaign.

When completing your pledge card, we ask that you please take your pledge into prayerful consideration when determining your estimate of giving for next year. Thank you for your generous commitment to the work of Jesus Christ through this church.

Please bring your completed pledge card with you to church on Commitment Sunday, as we gather together in worship, or you may drop it off or mail it to the church office. If needed, blank pledge cards are available on the information table in the Narthex.

The 2026 Proposed Budget is linked below. If you have any questions concerning the budget, please contact our Finance & Stewardship Ministry Team Moderator, Johnna Thurston.

Jump into Advent with your church family!

Sunday, November 30, after worship

All things beloved at this very special time of year!

Chili Cook-off: please bring your personal favorite batch of chili for tasting. The group will vote on a Champion.

Cookies: if you don’t want to bring chili, please sweeten the pot with a batch of Christmas cookies to share!

Crafts: There will be Christmas crafts to help you get your creative festivities rolling.

Community: celebrate the start of Advent with your College Hill family.

Children’s Christmas Eve Pageant:

All children are invited to join in the creation of the Nativity on Christmas Eve. No practice time needed. Please plan to arrive at church a little early to get a part in the scene and a costume. We will need shepherds, Angels, Mary, Joseph, a few animals, a star. Help us bring the story to life! We are asking for a few children, who can commit to some practice time, to be readers. Please let Betsy know if your child would like to be a reader.

Children are asked to make a JOYFUL NOISE to the Lord on Sunday, December 21, 2025 during worship. We will have a few short practices on Sundays leading up to the 21st. Many voices make beautiful music. Schedule coming soon.

Worship Connection:

The theme for the first 3 weeks of November is “Listening For God.” Through stories from the Old Testament we will explore God’s plan for diversity, how God was and is involved in the lives of God’s people, how God gives us guidance to help us journey together, and most importantly to remember to love God with all our breath, all our being and all our action.
