Greetings!
We had a wonderful Walk-a-thon day! The weather was great, we had plenty of volunteers and the students had a grand ol’ time. They were exhausted and hungry when they were finished. I have never heard a quieter cafeteria or seen more clean plates at the end of lunch before! Let’s see how they sleep tonight. (I don’t think the adults will have any trouble sleeping!)
Thank you to everyone who came to volunteer and/or cheer the students along. We truly couldn’t have this event without your help. Thank you, also, for your support in the fundraising aspect. The returns this week have been very positive and we’re ever hopeful we’ll hit the $25,000 goal! Don't miss the photos farther down in this newsletter.
Just a reminder that 1st quarter progress reports were sent home today. Please remember to check the backpacks and view the report with your child. This is the time to look for missing homework, assignments, etc. and make suggestions to help your child improve before the 1st quarter report cards come home.
While we are grateful for the beautiful weather we have been experiencing, please remember in your prayer the people of Puerto Rico as well as those in Florida.
Again, thanks to all for a great Walk-a-thon and I hope you have a restful and relaxing weekend.
Peace,
Ms. Ann Dougal
Principal

Grade 6 Learns More about Prayer
When it comes to praying, we usually think of the common prayers we say every day. If you ask sixth graders about types of prayers, they will tell you about petitions, contrition, and such. They would also tell how to pray using Pope Francis’s Five Finger Prayer.
We are currently working on praying for others first - our families, teachers, leaders, those who are suffering and finally ourselves. This will be an ongoing project for this year. Whether we pray in the classroom or church, our students will be praying for all people.
Join your children at home and pray Pope Francis’ five finger prayer.

What A Great Day!
It was a beautiful day for a Walk-a-thon! The sun was shining and although it was a little chilly, it was the perfect day for walking and running!
We thank friends, families, students, faculty and staff for helping to make today's walk a fantastic success. Whether you were a volunteer or standing on the sidelines cheering on the students, we appreciated your support for St. Michael's Academy!

The Feast of St. Michael
On Thursday, we celebrated the Feast of our Patron Saint, The Archangel St. Michael. Our Chaplain Fr. David and Deacon John Miller celebrated Mass with us and an invitation was extended to the Grade 7 grandparents. The Mass included a very special presentation by our 7th grade students. Fr. David explained how many years ago, the Gospel would be acted out for the congregation instead of reading it.
The 7th grade students did just that and reenacted the battle that took place in heaven when the wicked angels under Lucifer, revolted against God. St. Michael, leading the faithful angels, defeated them and drove evil out. It was a fantastic way for our younger students to understand who St. Michael is and why he is considered the protector of the church.
|
|
After the Mass, the grandparents of our Grade 7 students were invited back to the school to share some refreshments with their grandchildren.

Grade 4 Learns The St. Michael Prayer
The 4th grade students did some extra learning about St. Michael for his feast day. They produced colorful images of St. Michael and practiced their cursive writing on the flip side while they learned the prayer of St. Michael.
In addition, the students received special prayer cards and book marks to commemorate the feast day.

St. Michael the Archangel,
Pray for us!
We pray for our brothers and sisters across our nation and across the world. May God give everyone strength during these especially stressful times.
We pray in a special way for all of our families and friends in need.
We pray for our brothers and sisters in Ukraine and surrounding areas who are experiencing the pain and disruption of war. May God protect them.
We pray for our recently departed:
Patti Foard
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
