Giving, Growing, Grateful in faith 2020
This fall at St. Mark’s we will be celebrating the many ways that we as a community are still Giving, Growing and Grateful in faith. We’ll be taking a journey deeper into the biblical meaning and practice of Christian Stewardship. We want to focus, not on our budget and the need of the church to receive, but rather on the spiritual practice of every Christian to think through their own financial life and discern what they are called to joyfully give to God as part of their own spiritual growth and development.
November 15th we will have our Stewardship Celebration Sunday (yes, I’m sorry that there is not a pledge and pie Sunday). We’re planning Covid-safe ways to mark this time as we join together, as a whole congregation, deepening our faith and growing with God through our giving back a portion of what God has given each of us. We know the generosity of our St. Mark’s community and the strong commitment to growing in faith and we invite you to join us in this act of Worship in the coming weeks.
Updated Member Directory
In an effort to continue to strengthen the wondrous relational fabric of our parish, we have moved our directory to an electronic format. We are starting with a downloadable PDF member directory (it is password protected), and may be downloaded below.

Coming up, members will be able to request changes to their information, submit new photos, and be able to see a current listing of the members of St. Mark's with an app on their phone or logging into a website.  If there is an issue with your information, please let the Erin Cook know (email here) and we will get it updated as soon as possible.

When you click on the download link below, the directory file will automatically download to your device, so please take note where your downloads are stored as it may not automatically open. When you attempt to open the PDF file, it will immediately prompt for a password. Click on the link below to see the password - it is case sensitive.

Remembering the Departed on All Saints Day: A Virtual Ofrenda

Thank you for helping us reach for the stars!

4th Mondays at 7PM

In September, our Anti-Racism group discussed chapters 1-2 of How to Be an Anti- Racist, by Ibram X. Kendi, and we watched this 17 minute interview with the author. We opened and closed our time together with prayer and songs, including "Hold my Hope" by Ana Hernandez and "One Foot/Lead with Love" by Melanie DeMore.

Our next gathering will be on Monday, October 26th at 7PM on Zoom to discuss chapters 3 & 4 of How to Be and Anti-Racist by Ibram X Kendi.  Contact Sylvia+ (email here) for more information and link to join the meeting.
Each week, different members of St. Mark's contribute their talents to create music for our liturgies. In case you missed it, or simply want to enjoy it again, click here to view last Sunday's Offertory Song, featuring 8 singers from St. Mark and photos of our members gardens and pets, and last Sunday’s Communion Song, featuring an original chant by Donnel Miller-Mutia and images of Lynette Cole baking bread.

RIP - The Right Rev'd William C. Frey
Your prayers have been requested for the repose of the soul of Bishop William C. Frey who died yesterday morning (10/11/2020) after a short illness in San Antonio, Texas.

Bishop Frey was born in 1930 and ordained in 1956 in the Diocese of Colorado. He was the Rector at Trinity on the HIll in Los Alamos before serving as bishop in the Diocese of Guatemala and then the Diocese of Colorado. He and his wife Barbara were a great blessing to the Diocese of Rio Grande when he agreed to assist the Standing Committee with pastoral care of our congregations from 2008 to 2010. Bp. Frey came to help at St. Mark’s for several months after the split in 2009.

Cards may be sent to the family at the address below.

The Rev'd Paul Frey
139 Kentucky Street
Laredo, Texas 78041-3227

Into your hands, O merciful Savior, we commend your servant, Bill. Acknowledge, we humbly beseech you, a sheep of your own fold, a lamb of your own flock, a sinner of your own redeeming. Receive him into the arms of your mercy, into the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of the saints in light. Amen.

May his soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
